App for finding folders with a given number of files?

I want to check a folder with a lot of sub-folders and I want to find folders with a certain number of files (3,5,etc). I had an app at one time that would do that, but I can’t find it or remember the name. I have an app that will find empty folders, but it won’t let me search for folders with a specific number of files.

Any ideas? (besides using DOS commands or powershell)

Total Commander is powerful file management app but I’m not sure if it will do what you ask.  I mainly use it for searching files in large directories for specific text strings.  It excels at that.

What's the goal? Most sub-folders you describe are created by programs to store temporary data, and they usually have an algorithm to clean them up themselves or a command for doing it manually.

I figured you're talking about a Windows based program since you mentioned DOS, here is a good article which is a review of one decent version, but mentions many others.

I will have to check, but I think Notepad++ may do it.  It’s great for searching files or whole folders for text strings.

Treesize Free will list all folders in a heirchy with their size and I think number of files. Not sure if you can search, but you can expand the folders to see things.

If you decide a DOS command is ok, I can fix you one up Ithink.

I have a music folder with hundreds of folders with the artist’s names. Some of those folders aren’t full albums and have only two or three songs in them. I want to find those folders and move those songs into another folder so I can separate out the full albums.

I’ll look at some of the suggestions….thanks.

D'oh!

Bash and C-shell both have a simple function to do that, but... Winblows systems need not apply. 😁🤣
