Speaker Williams on handgun carry.

Recommended Posts

Once again I watched the legislative update on public television this morning. Speaker Williams was talking about expanding our right to carry. I got excited for a second, but then he apparently got hit with the stupid stick. He said that hunters should be allowed to carry on WMA's, because a friend of his shot and killed himself with his handgun stuffed in his pants because he had to hide it while hunting.

Now comes the good part. Speaker Williams stated that this should should not extend to city parks because, "there is a criminal element in parks in and around the larger cities in Tennessee and we don't need people carrying guns in those kind of places." He said he is for some new gun laws and supports hunting, but "there are some places people should not be taking their guns."

A logical person would provide a qualified person, HCP holders, the ability to defend themselves from this criminal element. So where ever there is a threat to society, we must go unarmed? :screwy::screwy:

stupid stupid stupid. It would be nice if we had some option to get him out of office.

The people of his county could boycott his restaurant and shut him down.

But the question is to carry and break the law, not carry and risk being a victim or not go.

sorry guys..I just HAD to open my big mouth..I sent my senator (Mike Faulk) an email..the subject and body of my email follows.

subject: Wanted: lying Bastard, Position:Tn. Speaker of the house.

I am completely dismayed that this has been allowed. the deception that I see going on in my own senate does NOT give me comfort that we as a state are allowing ethical members to look after our legislative needs.

I have read that the new speaker said he would expand the areas where citizens could carry firearms for protection...and on a VERY popular Tn. gun forum I have read that he apparently doesn't want to allow firearms in parks..because "that's where there are criminal elements".

May I ask, sir if you will make this point to him? since criminal elements are in parks...does he expect us as citizens to go UNARMED and unable to protect ourselves into areas where there is a threat to society or do we abandon them to the "criminal element?" the Supreme court has ruled that police officers have no duty and indeed are not expected to protect citizens. This is a responsiblity that was left up to us as citizens to see to. So I would have you ask that jackass what exactly is his plan to safeguard citizens that would like to enjoy the parks that we as taxpayers have built and maintain.

This man is dumber than he is unethical and that's pretty sad.

I would also ask, is there any way we can get a recall vote? this sort of deception is reprehensible and should NOT be allowed in our government. We're better than this and if we don't police ourselves, who will??

thankyou for your time and, if my use of colorful invectives have offended you, please forgive me. I'm so mad right now, Kent Williams is LUCKY that all I'm doing is calling him a dirty name.

Respectfully,

If I were a member of the current state legislature, I wouldn't want an armed citizenry, either.

Kent Williams is a douchenozzle. How could you begin to think this is a good idea, especially as you read it out loud, in front of your peers. "Yep, this sounds perfect. About time we had some common sense legislation in TN." I think he looks like a very confused Harry Carey.

I just found this while searching for more on his gun views. This survey is from 2006, and Kent Williams says that he is in favor of requiring a permit for GUN POSSESSION! Not just a permit for carry, but a permit just to possess a firearm. I found it in the Nashville Post and several other newspapers.

+1 and NRAforlife I understand where you are coming from, but it's not up to just the people in his county. Everyone in the state that voted republican should be calling for this idiot's head.

No, there's a few that's not. I know a commissioner over there who's speaking to an atty. I told him I'd come over and help if they could get something going.

I'm feeling that Naifeh knows exactly what he is doing......pulling those puppet strings.

He knew that he didn't stand a chance against Mumpower with the repub's holding majority, so as usual, the dem's pooled together to deceive everyone and voted with this one repub. Try and tell me that this won't be brought back up very soon. Just like momma always said, "boy, I brought you into this world, and I can take you out just as easily.".......I can't wait for the bi-partisan efforts this session.

I sent one off to the "Kenter" himself with an e-mail addredd taken directly from his website borrrowing a quote from a previous post (shame on me):

"there is a criminal element in parks in and around the larger cities in Tennessee and we don't need people carrying guns in those kind of places." He said he is for some new gun laws and supports hunting, but "there are some places people should not be taking their guns."

So if there is a criminal element in parks, and simple reason dictates that criminals do not follow laws, then it defies common sense to stop law abiding firearm carry permit holders from being able to protect themselves in a "criminal element".

A law abiding gun owner that has proven him or herself should never be denied the legal right to defend themselves in any place a law enforcement officer is allowed the same privilege. We are defenders of the same cause and both know that ONLY if life is threatened could we use the tool provided.

Please rethink your position and get Naifeh out of the equation. There is, as you know, an ever increasing number of people that have taken the responsibility for their own protection and that number will not stop rising. At some point it will become a voice that will be hard to drown out. Please don't compromise our position any further.

Thank you,

Y'all can do as you please. I however believe in the don't ask don't tell rule of thumb in that my firearm is generally NOT on my hip, front/back pocket, OIC or anywhere else 99.9% of the sheeple would notice it. Definitely not 'Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just happy to see me' carry either. If anyone walks unprotected in woods, forest and other locales unprotected well they are putting their life in Gods hand.

Let's see what we have here...

The Speaker of the House acknowledges that in fact there is city property maintained exclusively for the use of taxpayers. He also acknowledges in his statement that he personally is aware that the criminal element has become such a problem that it is unsafe for citizens to use said facilities.

Logic would follow that the legislature should do the following...

a. Immediately post those properties as unsafe for use do to criminal activity.

b. Add additional funding for law enforcement to begin additional patrolling of said areas.

c. Create an oversight committee to review "dangerous parks" and review statics on which parks must be closed immediately and sold for development. As well as provide quarterly statistics to the public evaluating the cost to arrest ratio as a guide for closing down parks as well as listing the crime rates for every park.

Seems to me if an elected official points out a problem, he needs to see that it is corrected. Banning lawful HCP holders won't correct this problem... so what is Mr. Williams going to do in addition to this?

Oh wait... silly me I forgot... this is politics. It isn't about serving the people, or correcting problems... it's a shell game. Hide the freedoms. Only it's not under any of the shells. They're hiding the "freedom" in their pocket! ;)
