I'm just going to keep using Suntrust. They seem to have a million conveniently located branches and I've never been to one that was posted. No fees either.

Years ago I worked for a company that paid their mileage reimbursement separately from my pay check. Their account was at BOA, and I liked to just cash that mileage check to have a little spending cash.

I would go to the drive-thru, and they would hand me an ink pad make me put a thumb print on the check. They would always say "If you open an account here, you don't have to do that."

Then one day, they said, "Sorry, the drive thru is for account holders only, you have to go inside." I go inside and they say, "we need your thumbprint. Oh, and if you are an account holder you don't have to do this."

Then one day I go inside and they say they have to take my picture when I cash that thumbprinted check, for security reasons. But, account holders don't have to do that.

The last time I have ever darkened their door, I went in, thumb and mug at the ready, and they told me there would be a $5 charge to cash it since I was not a member. I about lost it. I'm really surprised I didn't get escorted out by the police. I really made a stink and everybody in the bank was looking at me. The manager came out and told me that if I were an account holder I wouldn't have to do any of this. I told him "Why would I want to be a member of a bank that treated guests so badly?" I told him I wanted my full check amount in cash, or else I would spend the weekend on their sidewalk with a sign, and call the news company. Eventually he conceded and gave me the money, just to shut me up and get me out the door.

Wouldn't hurt my feelings in the least if Bank of Amerika went out of business and closed every location.

Why didn’t you cash the checks at your bank?

I've worked for a bunch of banks over the years. BOA was one of the worst to deal with. They're so big they're completely inhuman.

That’s my bank. My account is 25 years old, but has been Suntrust for a long time. I have no desire to change.

I had SunTrust a long time ago, can't recall why I left, might of been charges, ATM or check fee.  I've been with BOA for a long time, never really had a big problem with their service.  But enough is enough, time to give my business to companies that support my side of things, or at least stay neutral.

I'm looking to move my accounts away from BOA and been researchng banks in my area. Just about the time I settle on one I learn they are owned by yet a bigger bank like BOA so still looking????

I'm using Regions. They bought out Superior about a decade ago. Not too big, not too small.

Aren't they all posted? Pretty sure the ones in East TN are.

I use USAA. If a local bank charges me a fee, USAA refunds it to me directly into my checking account at the end of that month. I also have received cash in my checking account for using the real estate agent they recommend (from a big list, it's most reputable agents in larger markets). Checks for deposit are just endorsed, scanned (or photographed with my phone) and deposited instantly, no waiting for it to clear. I've only found an issue with depositing cash, a small account in a local credit union has been my fix for that. All in all, my favorite bank so far and I've had bank accounts for about 50 years.

I also use them. I will say their insurance bites though. This has been the worst experience with insurance ever. The deer strike has proven to be a nightmare through USAA. I would not recommend then as insurance.

I've had their insurance asking as I've had my other accounts there. I only have liability (not full coverage) and when an idiot made a u-turn in front of me from a merge lane, they got the other insurance company to pay for a rental car until I was paid AND my truck was fixed. With MetLife as soon as they found out they didn't have to pay, they were done with me to the point once as soon as I mentioned the accident the agent responded with "we are not responsible for costs connected to the event, and be aware, your premium WILL increase." And then hung up on me.

Really, how so?  My daughter hit a deer in Nashville, they had the car towed to Clarksville to Bumpus, and paid for a rental.  The issues were on Bumpus (took too long), but they all made it right by Bumpus paying for the rental beyond stated time.

The adjuster they sent was clueless, he took a few pictures is all. When he submitted the estimate he never listed the good or the fender which were very obviously damaged. Body shop has had the do several adjustments which is slowing everything down. When I contacted USAA they were also clueless. I had to explain to the adjuster that due to the amended estimate and needing more parts it would now take longer. They said that was on the shop. Not so much. If the original estimate had been more correct and completed they could have gotten the parts faster instead of running into a holiday weekend which delayed it further. When i asked them about the rental they said yeah no problem you are covered. Next morning sure enough I get a call saying the rental expires that day. Had to call USAA again to get that fixed.

I pay decent previous so I expect decent service. I do not accept mediocre from someone I am paying. My insurance company is expected to be working for me as that is what I pay for.

Sorry you apparently got a new adjustor or something.  Been with USAA since 1985 and never had an issue.  Son hit a deer, car was fixed in a week.  Windstorm, roof needed replacing, contractor was waiting on me to work it into my schedule.  If your former military, they are the way to go

BOA isn’t a terrible company because of this. They are a terrible company because of their overall business practices. They simultaneously make the case for government regulation with the way the operate to the public detriment and against government regulation with the way in which they buy the legislators and regulators who pretend to keep them in line.

Back in 1993, I just had to have a new truck. I financed it through the dealership, and Bank of America was who I paid the monthly payments to. I saved up and paid if off, and then had to file for a lost title, as they would not send it to me.

This was my last car payment, and damn sure my last dealing with these crooks. I am not a fan.

It all seems so simple to me. If you are an actor, act. If you are a singer, sing. If you are a banker, bank.

If you want to get into politics, stop what you're doing and run for public office!

Could be. I can only go through how they have treated me. Google them, thousands of folks reporting the same issues I am. State farm was expensive but at least they serviced their customer decently.

I am glad to hear some have had good luck with them but I am not amongst the lucky. I call it as I see it. They should have done much better. Oh well, I am moving on once this repair is done. You only get one chance in my opinion and as I have had several folks on the phone it is not limited to just one adjuster.

Perhaps they have changed since the last time anyone had a claim. That also seems to be what I am finding on Google about them.

Years ago, I was with a local bank that was bought out to B of A. Had a truck financed there. I was sending my payments in, but would get a statement every month not showing the credit. The lady at the local branch told me to not pay another dime until they got it straitened out, because it was just like throwing money away, if my payments weren't showing as a credit on my account. It got so bad they almost repoed the truck and I never was able to get it off my credit report (it finally just went away due to time). I got that straitened out, paid the truck off, made sure all the checks I had written was cleared, and walked in there one day and demanded all my money right there on the spot.

From that moment on, I've have always dealt with a local bank only. That is getting harder to do with all the buyouts. There has even been rumors that the bank I'm with now was thinking of selling out. I've told my banker that the day that happens, I'm gone. I'll bury my money under a stump before I ever let B of A get ahold of any of it again.

I have been trying to find which banks are local and which ones are owned by big banks. If I can find a true local bank I will be moving my accounts to it.

There is one here in Gallatin so I might check them out. Never hurts to go and talk with them and ask questions huh?

Go into a bank you think is local and ask for a loan. If the person is physically there that can make the decision on the loan, there is a good chance they are local, or at least have local authority. It they tell you they will have to run it by the main office that is located in some other town or state, hit the road. I want a personal relationship with my banker, not just be some number in a big bank's database.

The local bank I was at first was great, I could go right into the president's office if needed. When they got bought out by B of A, nobody at the local branch could make any decisions. When I finally got the truck loan fixed I mentioned above, I paid it off (to be done with them), I had to wait 3 weeks for the title, and had to send it back to the main office (taking another week) to get them to sign the lien release. They wouldn't even let anybody at the local branch sign the lien release

I truly miss real local banks. When I was getting towards the end of college my Dad decided I should get a better car because it was likely I would be moving out of state and what I was driving might not make it. He was making the loan to me but had to borrow part of the money to do it. We were walking up town and he saw the bank president across the street, he yelled across the street addressing the pres by his first name and said Jim and I are going car shopping will you cover my check when it clears. Pres says how much my Dad's says around $2000, he said no problem and the loan was made. I'm sure more happened later but not a problem and nothing needed to be done ahead of time.

Same car but a year later I'm at my new job and broke, but Winter was coming so I borrowed $100 from the local bank for a month or so till I got caught up with moving expenses.  About 2 years go by and I go to the same bank to apply for a mortgage for my first house, I talked to the president of that bank and he said he would drive by the house to see if he thought it was worth what I wanted for a mortgage and I should come back the next week. Came back and he said he didn't get a chance to check it out and asked who the realtor was, I told him and he said good guy he wouldn't cheat you. Then asked if I had ever borrowed money before, I said yes $100 from them. He said did you pay it back and I said yes and I was approved.

Ah the simpler times.
