<table width="100%" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td class="copy">Friday, January 23, 2009</td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td class="copy"> The city of Crossville has proposed and nearly finalized a city ordinance that would ban concealed carry on city-owned property. Anti-gun bills such as this one will clearly strip those of Crossville, Tennessee of their right to self-defense. The watered down language used to amend this city ordinance has furthered restrictions on law-abiding citizens substantially by using the word “property” as opposed to government “buildings” or “premises.” Crossville’s ultimate scope for this bill was to limit concealed carry on city government-owned property, but the reckless use of language portrays the true meaning of the bill to limit concealed carry on any city-owned property.

The Crossville City Council has met twice already for readings on this anti-gun ordinance. The third and final reading will take place on Tuesday, February 10 at 6 p.m, in City Hall.

Please attend this hearing and show your opposition to this measure. If you are unable to attend, please contact the members of the City Council TODAY and respectfully urge them to oppose this ordinance.Contact information can be found below.

Wow, won't be moving to Crossville...ever.

Sidenote: This page is screwed up for me. David's name, avitar, info and the greyish box goes all the way down, all other posts are shifted to the right, it does this only on this topic, no other...

Same here.

I put a thread in the Forum support area for Tungsten to see. Weird it is the only one that is doing it, I know, because I have read everything on here this morning!

Note to the Original Poster...

I had to visit the link, click the Send To Printer option and then copy and paste the text from their printer-friendly version in order to fix the first post in this thread. Seems that if you just copy and paste from their web site version, it really hoses things up.

Not a big deal but just wanted to let you know what would work better for you (and us) in the future. :tinfoil:

Here is a NRA-ILA Link: http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=4317

Greetings,

Please HELP US ! We need your help !

I went to the Crossville Chronicle the other morning after it was brought to my attention that there had been a article written and placed on the bottom of page one entitled: "City Council To Discuss Firearms On City Property, Special Called Meeting Set For Tuesday Morning At 9:30 ." I went to the Chronicle to find out how I could get in touch with the writer of the article ( his name is Jim Young, jimyoungreporter@gmail.com )

I did indeed get in touch with Jim Young, but he referred me to the city clerk, Sally Oglesby. He would not go into any real specifics of the article after I told him that the content and meat of the article did not support the title. I also got no where when I asked why an announcement was made of a special meeting in the very morning paper of the morning meeting (Tuesday, Jan 20th 2009, the very morning of the innauguration.). This to me seemed a little peculiar to say the least.

I was told by the city clerk that there had been a accident where a fireman, while on city property (presumably the fire station) had received a superficial wound when his firearm discharged while either cleaning his weapon, or mishandling his weapon in front of a city police officer. Instead of resorting to the ancient, old fashioned idea of individual ACCOUNTABILITY, the city council decided that the best way to keep us all safe is to limit the gun rights of respectable, law abiding, citizen gun owners. I personally see this as a slap in the face and as an insult to the very citizens to whom the city council members were sworn to serve. They think that as law abiding citizens, we are too incompetent to be able to carry our handguns (with handgun permit) on city property. This is preposterous.

I am planning to attend the city council meeting , which will be held on Febuary 10th, 2009 at 6:00 PM at the Crossville City Hall. This will be the third and last meeting concerning this issue. Please either attend the meeting, or inform every person who values their God given rights to attend, as well as to further pass the information on.

I am of the belief that I am a citizen, not a subject. I am a FREE MAN. The upper courts as well as Supreme Court have rendered multiple times that law enforcement is neither responsible or liable for the safety or welfare of the citizens which they were sworn to protect and to serve. The only person who is ultimately responsible for his or her defense and protection is the individual. Do not let the Crossville City Council legislate your rights away as a "feel good measure" in response to the irresponsible act of one individual (a city employee.)

I contacted the NRA - Institute For Legislative Action and they are all over this. They have mobilized their lobbyists and lawyers to look into this matter and have posted all of this information on the NRA - ILA website.

Here is link to the NRA- ILA article : http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=4317

Please print this out and pass this information on to anyone and everyone who values life and liberty. I have so far contacted the local pawn shops, NRA, GOA, on line gun boards, etc. I am thinking of taking out a local add in the paper as well as a LSN ( Local Sales Network) announcement. Please pass the word around and if you can, go to the meeting to show your support for our rights.

In the Friday paper, the Chronicle recanted their Tuesday statement saying that the public had misunderstood the intent of the article. It is very clear that the NRA-ILA put the heat on pretty hard and now they are trying to back peddle as hard as they can. Bottom line, the law abiding citizens of Crossville are to accept a limiting of gun rights in this city all because of the irresponsible acts of one individual (city employee.) There was no accountability. This is just a crack in the door to legislate away the rights of the law abiding, all in the name of "safety" and "the common good."

God Bless, SMSTRICK (Crossville)

The public school system has been attacking the concept of personal responsibility for the past 60 years. I remember often in grade school 50 years ago, if some kid did something wrong, it was practice to punish the entire class. This crazy concept has been drilled into us. I suspect they teach it to student teachers when they are going to college and learning how to teach. It is an insidious evil.

Our prayers are with you in Crossville.

Wow, I grew up in Crossville and shoot, guns were everyday life for so many at the time. I remember in high school before the ban on guns on school property every freakin pickup in the high school parking lot had rifles in the window rack, parked everyday all day right there in the lot. A lot of kids would hunt before school.

Times were different then cause best I can remember none of the said guns jumped out during the day and shot anyone, ever. Weekends were a different story.

Now Crossville is about 80% transplants from up north that want to make Crossville an oasis just like beautiful Detriot. We stupid rednecks don't know as much as they do.

I use to love Crossville now it's a traffic nightmare cause the same roads they had when Crossvile was 20k people are handling 50k people.

I have no desire to go back.

But it seems to me that being it a right, we should be able to carry on any government property, anywhere. Businesses have the right to say yea or nay but I think governemtn property, and I mean any government property it's our right.

Which proves to me that it's actually a privilage we posess with these permits and not a right.

Can politicians in their INFINITE "wisdom" not understand that restricting the rights of the citizen will NOT stop criminal from creating mayhem and destruction?

Why are we, the PEOPLE considered the enemy?

The city council is trying to pass a needless city property ordinance because a city fireman acted irresponsibly and accidentally shot himself with his own firearm while dis assembling his firearm in front of a friend (on duty city cop) while at the fire station.

The city council evidently known nothing of the value of responsibility and accountabilty. In this case, they are of the belief that law abiding citizens who have a handgun carry permit are too incompetent to carry on city property. The thing that they have yet to realize is that this mindset is a insult and slap in the face to the very people of whom they were sworn to serve.

I am a citizen of Crossville , not a subject. The city seems to think that they know what is better for me than I do when it comes to self defense than I do, therefore , they are legislating my rights away by limiting my rights as a law abiding citizen.

I am a law abiding, respectable citizen. I AM the city. The city council is to serve, not to be served. This is just a "feel good" ordinance which is nothing more than a cheap attempt for the city to thump their chest's so that they can convince themselves as well as the citizens that they are actually making the city safer by disarming the good guys.

Pathetic, elitist, feel good non scence.

Please attend the City Council meeting which will be held on Feb 10th, Tuesday at 6:00 PM at the Crossville City Hall. We are asking all who value your God given rights to empower yourselves by standing with us to fight for our right to self defense. It has been rendered down from the upper courts time and time again that law enforcement is neither responsible , or liable for the welfare of the individual citizen. The duty, obligation and responsibilty rests with the individual citizen. PERIOD.

Thanks SMSTRICK, well said...I am ASSuming the TFA will be helping in this as well? course, I have no idea, but it seems to me that if they restrict on city property, (not city owned buildings) well crap, that is the whole city...therefore, you cannot leave home.
