Thats going to be a tough decision to make. As for me I am eligable to be buried there but I will be buried in a Family Cemetery here in Tennessee with the rest of my family. Makes it easier on the family to be able to visit graves when they are pretty much close together.......JMHO

I just buried my aunt last November. Both she and her late husband were WWII vets . The only option she had was being buried on top of her husband . The National cemetery in Nashville has been completely full for years .

Most all my family members have been cremated as I will be to save space in the Family Cemetery. We even have stack burials for cremeted members. My mother is buried on top of my father with a smaller double stone marker and there are a few others planning the same thing. I will be buried on top of Margie my wife when I go and the marble stone is already there and dtae will just be added.

She was buried by VA and we do didn’t embalm or have visitation (at 96 years old she had outlived almost all that would visit ) and it still cost over 9k .

Funeral homes depend on emotion to get families to spend more money and my whole family has all decided it will be cremetions. Many of my family have already prepaid theirs. I just finished paying for mine so family does not have to deal with it.

Pretty much the same here. No visitation or ceremony. If you can't visit me now, while

I'm alive, don't show up & act like you're going to miss me.  Sad, but true.

Back to the original topic, the ANC is a great thing. I would qualify for it, but just doesn't

interest me that much, & I have given it some thought.

I thought it to be very commendable that they are asking what the public thinks.  We don't have very many government agencies asking for our opinions about the services that they provide to us.

I simply cannot understand why we spend thousands of dollars to put dead bodies in a fancy box. If I were to die tomorrow I'd much rather my wife use that money for a nice vacation than a coffin. Burn me or wrap me in a cloth and stick me in the ground.

No vacation due to the fines for improperly disposing of, not to mention the EPA may take exception to your toxic 2A remaims being re-introduced to the great circle of life. OSHA will probably be concerned over exposure any of your gaseous form that may not be contained.

Solyent Green may be the answer.

I am ok with service based, tax payer supported cemeteries. However, the maintenance of traditional cemeteries is high. Modern planning and design include flush headstones and markers.

I'm not saying retro fit, but to manage existing space without adding maintainence, cremation with proper internment and a flush marker seems reasonable.

If the final wishes of the service member and their families, isn't where you are buried more important than what you buried in?

If you are concerned about the funeral Home upselling a package during your time of high emotional, low logic decision making, consider a pre planned package. As gruesome as it sounds, having been through it, it can be a blessing to your family, especially if truly unexpected.

If many of this enlightened age knew who previously owned the land Arlington now occupies they would probably demand it be shut down and graves moved out.

I certainty don’t have a say in it but if they are running out of space they might need to tighten up the requirements for entry.

You are allowed to bury or cremate a body on your own property with the proper permit.

Agree. I'm of the mind that a burial plot at Arlington should only be for those who die in combat for our country. That will exclude many worthy people from having their remains interned in the ground there, but they could build at least one more mausoleum for cremated remains if their last wishes or families are willing to go that route.

No need to tighten the requirements; open Arlington II. Nothing says it has to be at the same place.

I recommend The Body Farm (the University of Tennessee Anthropological Research Facility).  They’ll do fascinating things with you, lol.

I'm for cremation too. I was standing on top of Mt. Pisgah admiring the scenery and I asked my friend with me if he was still flying his plane and I went first if he would fly over the Blue Ridge and scatter my ashes. He said "Sure, I'll just put you out through the relief tube". I guess it won't really matter then. LOL

I had actually considered that as well.

FWIW, you have to live within a certain mileage ( ? ) for them to pick up a body for free, otherwise you have to make other arrangements.
