Hypothetical gun trading question

I like to frequent the gun show in Cave City Kentucky, as it is the best show I know of within driving distance of my home. I know one cannot buy or sell a handgun across state lines unless it is transferred to a dealer in one's home state.

My question is this: Would it be legal or illegal for a Tennessee resident to buy or sell a handgun to/from another Tennessee resident while they are both in the state of Kentucky?

Interesting question that I imagine the answer to is illegal for the simple fact that you would not be in Tennessee.  You would be bound by the laws (and other assorted regulations) of the jurisdiction in which you physically were at the time.

Best bet would be to head for the border at the same time and do your business or make other similar arrangements.

The crime occurs at the TN state line, as you many not bring any firearm acquired in another state back into the state of your own residence, except for rifles and shotguns transferred through FFL in the other state.

There is no exception in the federal code for same state residents doing personal transaction in a different state from their own.
