Savage blows the competition away at the manufactures matches.. has been doing that for a while now.. best bang for your dollar and plus.. with Savage, you can change caliber if you like! Cuz you can change the bolt head and barrels.. so with one rilfe you can shoot .223 size case bolt face, .308 bolt face, or switch to a mag. like a WSM if you like. They are just versitle to pass up.. I have a couple of projects in the works right now.. one a palma barreled action for my tube gun.. and a M40 clone.. once I am done with that.. it will be a Savage target rifle, so I can switch barrel.

In my recent Gun Test magazine, the Savage model 25 handily beat the CZ and the Ruger bolt guns. The Savage 25 is said to have an excellent trigger, easy scope mounting, a much smoother bolt, excellent ejection, and .5 minute of angle accuracy or better. Another nice thing about the Savage 25 is that it costs less than the others.

i handled the Remington 799 at Bass Pro this afternoon. i just dont like it...it feels very very small in your hands...the bolt handle is tiny and the entire action feels slightly bigger than some .22magnum bolt guns i've held in the past. i guess for smaller shooters (kids, women...) it would be ok, but if your planning on shooting it alot then i'd find a bigger action... just my thoughts...

Out of the box, Savage is the accuracy king. My 110 tactical will shoot sub minute groups with Winchester white box and will shoot 1/4....yes that's right 1/4 minute groups with Federal Gold Medal Match. Even though I have several other tactical rifles, mostly remingtons in 7.62 and 338 Lapua, my savage is my "go to gun" when I need accuracy or when I am shooting a sniper competition.

And the best thing about it was the price, I bought it used from a guy who had put 40 rounds through it. I traded him a crappy Kahr K40 for the rifle and a hundred bucks. Plus he had put an aftermarket trigger on it that is a wet dream to shoot.

I have a Savage and quite like it.

I'll tell ya, I don't own the Savage .223, but I do have several Savage's including a 22-250. They build one heck of a rifle. Their triggers are very nice. I have been impressed with just about every one of them I have shot.

Edit: I responded to the above before reading the entire thread. I see I am not alone in being a Savage fan. Good news travels fast. The old Winchesters and Remingtons shoot just as well, and maybe with work better. But for the money, the Savage shoots as well as those out of the box usually with a synthetic no hassle stock and you save a ton of money.

They shoot as well as anything in their class IMO, as well as or better than Remington, CZ, Ruger, etc. They may not shoot as well as a rifle you have 5 grand in, but then again it isn't 5 grand. And honestly how many people will ever need that? Very few.

While I'm at it, I will also plug CZ. Thay make a very nice Mauser action rifle. My favorite Safari gun is the CZ. IMO one of the finest Mauser action rifles made.
