I'm just going to say this and then be done. With the GOP controlling every branch of government we should not have to be be THIS concerned. That alone, is a sad indication of current events. As much as we all hated BHO, I can't recall a single gun related item or accessory he was successful in banning, especially without any grandfather clause. Rand Paul is right, the GOP is a better party when they are fighting for their lives. When in power, they are hard to distinguish from the democrats.

The fact that the GOP just rolled over and took this should have us all a bit concerned. Overall I couldn't care less about owning a bump stock but imagine what will be next.

I'm not convinced that the bump stock made it anymore lethal than with a standard semi.  Maybe because he had little to no training in ARs, but if it were someone with training, I'm sure they could have hit more, many more. If he had put more thought into it, he could have trained at the elevation and distance he wanted to engage at, chosen a heavier caliber and done much more damage.

He had the $, he could have purchased an NFA in .308, which would have really made these anti-gun brains implode.  Imagine if they knew that with just $200, plus the price of the weapon anyone could get a true automatic.

A minigun would have done lots more damage. With the lack of security, he probably could have snuck it in. But, my theory has been that this was all about the AR 15. Hard to get all those Libs on a minigun banning tizzy. I think he was going for an AR-15 ban.

The Clinton-era AWB grandfathered in all existing firearms. It was legal to own, buy and sell them. There was a specific list of banned new ones and all other new non-listed ones had to meet the ban requirements. If a semi-auto rifle or handgun had a detachable magazine, it could have no more than 1 of a variety of "assault" features. Semi-auto shotguns had a different criteria. Check out Section 2.1 of this Wiki page for details on those features.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Assault_Weapons_Ban

Because a pre-ban one could have all the "features" it wanted, they sold at a premium during the ban period. You still see folks labeling one "pre-ban" in some sales ads, but that means nothing right now and never will again. No new law is ever going to set the grandfather date at 1994.

Inventive people found ways to work around it, like the thumb hole stocks. It gave the function of a pistol grip without actually having a pistol grip. This allowed one other feature to be added and not run afoul of the AWB.

I'd expect a bump-fire ban to not have a grandfather clause. They'll either be legal without a tax stamp, or they won't. There will be no work-around/grandfather.

California has the same type law with the same results just don't get caught.

I have  friend that moved back from California several months back. He is a California native, but worked for years in Nashville before he moved back for awhile. He carried concealed the whole time he was back there. This guy is on the raio too. It wouldn't have been quiet if he wound up with gun charges.

I left Ca (San Diego) in 97 other then the weather it's a S#!+hole country just ask Trump, my buddy wanted a AR for a SHTF event, I sold him my Colt Hbar I bought out there in 87 and post dated a receipt for xmas 87, its still illegal due to legislation passed in 2000. If he got caught the receipt might help a little and play stupid.

For your friend I wouldn't be surprised they don't have metal detectors on the doors to supper markets, restaurants, etc. Red Guy in a Blue State = :taser:

He's back in Nashville now. I have another friend in LA that has more guns than me. He just keeps most of his in Arizona. Refuses to do the Gay California stuff to his ARs and AKs.
