Wife wanted to try out a new church that was meeting at a high school in Nashville until their official building was RTG.  Does the "no guns" at school only apply during active student occupation?.... or is it a NO GO anytime??

No gun on any school property anytime.

Unless you have a carry permit and keep it locked up in the vehicle.

I was talking in the building. Sorry I should have been clearer.

The conservative 'pro gun' NRA endorsed TN legislature never has gotten around fixing that law for people with handgun carry permits.  It is legal to carry in K-12 school buildings in some of the surrounding states with a license.

Yea, no such luck here. I know they’d be safer with me having mine but I abide by the law and leave it in the truck when I have to visit a school.

Laws do strange things, sometimes unintended, maybe. The law was designed to protect kids & teachers, right?  If they're not there, why protect a building? Makes little sense to me.  JMHO.

You expect anything done by the government to make sense? I agree why protect a building? Maybe I need to stay at a Holiday Inn Express and I would understand things a lot better.

How would anyone not usually going to the school know if there were students present. I think that is the issue.

Regardless it is a dumb law like most of the others for gun laws.

Guns are not the problem. Stupid and criminals are.

Same as the "when children are present" school zone speed limit signs. How am I supposed to know "when children are present" when my kids don't go to that school?  And what exactly does "present" mean?  When they're outside, in the building, or what?  I think the laws are intentionally vague to permit selective enforcement.

What are laws for? To control the populace massive? Statutes are written by those that are in positions of power. So they write those statutes to purposely serve themselves and those that pay them. Very sad for our country and the citizens. Only way to fix it is to remove those people. We need term limits. If out elected officials will not do as the people wish we should elect new ones. As for the school zone law, well, it is a good example is it not?
