Perspective may have been a little different from the street level, but holy moly!  Not sure I would have the cojones to pop someone in the head with a shotgun when they're slinging a hostage around just inches away.

It's a thermal/FLIR video from an overhead chopper, not too graphic.

Looked like he was less than 5 ft away. A shotgun patterns less than an inch at that range. I bet the muzzle blast was intense for the hostage.

I think many police departments are shooting deer slugs in their shot guns so may have been a slug round. I read some where that using buck shot was opening the police departments up to lawsuits by people getting struck with buckshot that were not even in the line of fire. Could be wrong but I think I read it.

when did cops start carrying "scatterguns"?

Don't know. Best I'm aware most have a rifle, shotgun, or both in their car.

That is an officer doing what he is trained to do. Take charge of the situation and gain control of bad guy as fast as possible. By his action of aggression the officer caught the bad guy totally off guard and the bad guy gave the officer what he needed!!!!   OPPORTUNITY and the officer took it. I say job well done.............JMHO

Probably a slug I keep my shotgun loaded with slugs and keep buck on the side saddle. But with new shells buckshot at 100 yards has maybe a 4” spread.
