Attempted gun theft at Walmart

 I was at the Millington Walmart earlier today and, as usual, took a stroll through the sporting goods section. Looked at the gun case and it was completely empty.

 The man working the counter said that about a week ago around 3:00 am a man broke the display case glass and grabbed some guns. When the police showed up (silent alarm on the case) he had two shotguns laying on the counter with the trigger locks off and loaded, and was in the process of trying to get the lock off a third. I didn't see any blood splatters anywhere so I'm assuming that he was taken into custody without incident. 

 They aren't going to put out any more on display until they come up with a better way of securing them.

That's like the what, 3rd or 4th Walmart around the Memphis area to have the gun cases get hit in the last few years?  You would think by now they would secure them better or have dedicated people for that area.

Huh? That store is open 24 hours. The cops showed up on a silent alarm and no one in the store was acting on someone smashing up the gun case and loading guns?

Sounds about right.  Saw on the news a while back where a walmart employee was fired for trying to stop a shoplifter.  Company policy is to let 'em go, hopefully the security cameras get a picture but walmart management does not want confrontations at their stores.

It's been years since I was in a WalMart at 2:30 in the morning (if ever) but there are usually no employees anywhere close to that part of the store at that time.

I wouldn't act on it either, they can't carry guns and be damned if walmart paid me enough to interviene someone who may be packing themselves.

 Am I the only one that feels that there is something really odd about this?  I don't think it was about stealing guns; if so, he would have just grabbed and ran. He took the time to load two and was working on the third. Even loading just one would make a person, at least me, believe that he was willing to shoot his way out of there. But three? it's possible the police might have prevented a mass shooting in Walmart.

3am, knows low employee presence, tools to access and make guns ready, loads  two and working on a third.

I have to agree, unusual behavior for a gun theft.

As a former Walmart loss prevention associate, there it's no way I'd confront him.  That $12 just isn't enough to confront armed people while being unarmed.  It's been 8 years but back then it was against company policy to engage with a shoplifter who was known to be armed.  Additionally, it's against the Walmart creed to be on the sales floor in the vicinity of customers.
