I had a Rock Island Armory 1911 GI model a few years ago . It ran good. How are the newer ones running ? Still good or what ? I am specifically asking about the full size GI model in 45acp . I would ask over at 1911 forum but they get a little picky if a gun cost less than $1,000 LOL . Thanks for any information.

I have one that is at the RIA facility now because it won't feed anything except FMJ.  IMO the finish on them is of poor quality and that really need a trigger upgrade.  Good for the money if you can get it to run right.

It's a budget gun. Doesn't mean they're bad, but I've seen some inconsistencies. I had one I gave up on and converted to a full time .22 with a Kimber conversion kit I had.

I have a RIA 9mm.  It's been reliable and accurate using any ammunition I've fed it.  It has a budget finish, but it's a budget pistol.

I've got two RIA's, but both are 9mm's.  One is a Rock ULTRA 5", the other is the Officer size CS.  I've got 5K rounds thru the 5" and 2K thru the CS (bought used) without a bobble.  I agree the finish could be a bit better, but mine are reliable.

Good to hear . Thanks guys . What brand magazines are you RIA owners using in 45 ?

I've used those that came with mine, also my Wilson Combat, and McCormick mags, even some no name ones. All functioned well.

I forgot to say what you're finding out...the RIA products have been a hidden little gem for a long time. People are starting to find this. Probably will increase the prices on them. lol I sure hope not. I'd like one the Commander size models in 9mm.

I had the GI model in 45 and it ran great except one time the sear spring messed up and it would fire double taps with one push of the trigger. Scared the heck outta me the first time. I put in a new set of standard springs by Wolf and it ran great afterwards. So I was kinda wanting one again. Something not too expensive to mess with as I have decided to hold off on the Ruger Security 9 for a little and see what, if any,  bugs crop up on them.

Just go get one.  Other’s experiences and even your own with possibly an older one really aren’t that relevant.  My experience has been excellent to the point that others have asked if I’m going to bring it out to the range.

I will say that now they’ve gotten rid of the billboard on the side they look exactly like a 1911 should.

RIA really misses the boat on the GI model with its off the wall aesthetics , Its a horrible 1911 GI rendering . A nicer budget GI would be Auto Ordinance ,for just over 500 bucks it actually looks like a WW2 A1 and its a better made pistol .
