Hey! Knife Makers!I need a blade!

Hey you knife makers. Wife is looking for a blade like this. I just need the blade as she makes the handles. I would need a hole in the metal for the handle of course. We will be pinning it with either Stainless or brass pins.

Anyone have an idea if they can make it and a price?  Feel free to PM me.

Yep, that is what it is, I am trying to find just a blade as most of the ones out there are tourist junk.

We have one that is close but with cheap metal. It works great for our Rabbit skinning. So what I am looking for is one made out of good metal that she can put her own handle on.

I really like this! Almost ordered one, but then I'd have to a great looking handle for it. I just may have to talk with GT about this. lol

Someone needs to make this with swappable pins in the handle and an ax style handle as the second option.

This is about 5"x5". Are you wanting it in carbon steel, stainless or tool steel and what thickness of material? I've never made one before but only because I was concerned nobody would want it?

Most I've seen are made from carbon steel...especially traditional ones making them easy to sharpen and hold and edge well but the draw back is it will rust if not cared for properly.

 

This one is about 4 1/2" x 7".

I like that 5 x 5 one! I am fine with Carbon but depending on price either stainless or damascus could be an option. I am open to your idea on thickness. I was thinking not real thick as we are going to use it for skinning not so much chopping. 

May have to go with two versions! One thinner and lighter and one a little larger and thicker for chopping. I like the idea od feing able to change handles as needed.

What does the Knife maker think? What are the recommendations? She is going to use it quite a bit but still want it to hold up if it is in the drawer or backpack for a couple months.

A thinner blade...say 1/8" or 5/32" should be plenty to do either.....it's not like you're going to baton wood with it or anything. As long as you make sure it's cleaned and oiled....say with vegetable oil or some other food safe product it should be fine if you put it up. The price of raw stock stainless drives the price up considerably...two or three times as much as carbon steel. What size holes are you thinking you want in the handle area for your removable handles?

Damascus is beautiful but maintenance of them is constant when used continually unless you get into a stainless type of damascus in which case it's very expensive. I don't care to work it cause it's tougher on belts and equipment and finishing.

I don’t think I could do it for the same amount as the Knifekits. The Damascus and heat treat costs with labor would be in the ballpark depending. I do believe GT does his own heat treat so I think he can swing something awesome.  Following this!!
