Shelby County has roughly 900,000 people. Naturally, it should have the highest amount of permits.

We also have the highest number of gang members and just your basic skells.

32,000 + of us in Shelby County are carrying. I think that is great. And a lot of us do so openly.

We only have 1,175 in Cocke county( #46) or so it says I think half are in my family or friends of the family. I wonder if it somewhat shows where the most crime in the state is or where it is easier to get the permits? I have to say the population in the area does have a lot to do with it but it is relative, more people more crime, and there are a lot of people that only carry because they don't feel safe because of the crime in the area they live in. I mean look at how many say they carry in Church and where could you really feel safer other than some resent events that prove it can happen anywhere! I kinda wonder what the number of people are that carry in every area with out permits in relation to those that carry legaly 3 to 1 you think? ( 1 being legal carry)

 Shelby County with more than TWICE as much as the next in line! Factor in the number of us who cross the "border" into Memphis:poop: everyday while carrying, and that's a lot of heat. Gotta have it in this cesspool though...

Gun community in Memphis is very active in general.

If you figure in the Metro Areas of Nashville and Memphis, Nashville MSA if over 300,000 bigger than Memphis MSA:

Nash MSA: 43755

Mem MSA: 35588

So with 300,000 less people they still have only 8165 more permits. Memphis per capita is way up there. Knox county per-capita is higher than Nashville, with a pop a bit less than half the size of Davidson.

Another factor comparing Shelby County to Nashville is that a good bit of the populous Nashville suburbs (Brentwood and Franklin) are not in Davidson County. Shelby County, on the other hand, has Germantown, Bartlett, Lakeland, Collierville, and Arlington...whereas the populations of Tipton and Fayette counties are a lot smaller. You also have people who live in Marshall and DeSoto county, MS that may have non resident TN permits if they work here or their MS license is good in TN. MS does not require folks to have a license/permit to keep a loaded firearm in the car....a lot less people in MS have licenses % wise compared to TN for that reason. There are also folks who live in Crittenden County (W MEmphis/Marion), AR and work in Memphis...their licenses are not factored in. Arkansas State Police does not release a lot of data to the public b/c the records are sealed, except for law enforcement.

The Nashville area is much more spread out than the Memphis area, in my opinion, than the Memphis area. We're all crammed up in one place!

Memphis city limits has a lot rougher areas than Nashville city limits, probably causing more people to get permits or go ahead and risk the misdemeanor and carry anyway.

I was thinking the number was kind of low (217,975) .There are about 6,000,000 people in TN.

We are the patron state of shooting stuff.

we need to step it up a bit
