Salt brine all over the place

There is no snow or ice in the forecast for the next 7 days yet there is salt brine laid down everywhere. We went driving through Clarksville , Dickson, Franklin , and Nashville today. Every major highway and interstate we went on were salted. Am I missing something here or does TDOT know something that we don't ? In the earlier days there was the thing called "use it or lose it" where if you don't use what you have in storage you wont get it next year , but I think that's a thing of the past.

I'm in Rhea county just north of Chattanooga.  Same road treatment here. We get a lot of fog and I think they are worried about it forming black ice when the temp goes down in the next 24 hours.

Because of our elevation were expecting to ring in the new year with no temperature at all!

Better safe than sorry. My cars and bike are locked in the garage. I am driving the wife's car and the work van. Granted, we did get flurries up here today.

I saw a salt truck on the road but not spreading anything on Friday in Monroe Co/Madisonville.  Haven't seen the salt brine but will running to Knoxville and back today & tomorrow for the grandson visit .

Temperatures this cold can make any moisture accumulate in trouble spots laying down black ice that can be quite dangerous.

The general consensus at TDOT is that brine is cheap and it’s better to have it down than wish you had it down.

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Weather people are calling for single digit lows with wind chills below zero at least through next Thursday night. I'm gonna make a store run for a couple things and then park the Jeep and camp out in the house for a while. Happy New Year Ya'll
