I'd like to have an R51 at that price. I guess Clarksville would be the closest store?

According to their store locator, I believe you are right. For me, it's about 62 miles each way.

I almost ordered the R51. I had the order all but done...But I kept remembering all the horror stories on it.

Went to the RK sale page and read the reviews from RK customers on it. Doesn't give me a good feeling on them. Just too many negative reviews and complaints on the R51 and Remington's past performance on the rebates.

I deleted the order. Right or wrong? I'd rather put the money towards an M&P M2. I've fondled and drooled over one of these and feel a lot better about the M&P than the Remington. Just too much going against it.

I have a couple of the original John Peterson designed model 51 Remingtons; the pistol this new model is based on. The design of the old model 51 is quite intriguing if you are an engineering wonk.  I would like to have one in my collection for comparison's sake as much as anything.

Cheap prices on a cheap gun aren't a bargain.  If I don't have confidence that I can depend on it 100%, then I don't need it.  Many years ago I had an AMT that could have cost me my life if I had needed to depend on it.  Never again!

Some of the biggest turds in gunmaking history have ended up being quite the collector's items.

The only reason I keep the AMT Backup is to remind me to never purchase something like it again. I should have known not to buy a gun made in CA.

I haven't given or sold it as I would worry they might have it fail at the wrong time.

Sad but true.... still wouldn't buy a current Remington pistol, and would be cautious about the the long guns. They are not tgge company they used to be. As Trump would say SAD!

Then I would try one. But for me, I believe I'll pass on it.

I have seen the for even less than that...Remington has failed in ways I have never seen in any handgun mfg and they cant give them away.  I think for a few bucks more id rather own something that actually works and has a resale value..Remington is the new Taurus of the gun world.

Hey...let's not get insulting here! Taurus is better than that. They can at least sell some guns. lol

Probably belly up time after a chapter 11. Wholesalers used to always discount the most in February so yah its bad. They should have moved ALL their production south years ago. I moved out of NY and am doing far better without the tax burden & the gun laws are just top tier assa nine. They need to sell a crap load of guns just to pay the corporate income tax and the high state income tax burdened pay rolls there. Bad decisions all around.

They had a good deal in N.Y. for more than 100 years, lots of history in those old buildings.... The move wasn't good for them they lost a lot of institutional knowledge when people didn't move with the company. It's tough to recover from that countless small things make a good design into a great gun. The management has been awful on top of the loss of institutional knowledge. I don't think they can recover now... I hope I'm wrong.

I hope they get their act together rather than go Bellie-Up. I would hate to see a company with such a great history just wither on the vine like old grapes. If I would have been working for them and they made me a good enough offer I would not be living in NY but living where ever the company put a plant as long as it was south of the Ohio River...........JMHO!!!  Like someone else mentioned, They should have left NY long before they did!!!

I'd buy an RP9 for $199, but it's actually $299 and you have to send in to Remington for the rebate.  I don't trust Remington to send the rebate, especially with them suffering financial problems.

That was a troubling point when I started checking customer reviews on the Rural King site. Not a lot saying they'd not received a refund, but enough to warrant a hesitation on buying; especially in light of the other reviews stating problems with functions on the Remington guns.

Companies don't announce in advance of going Chapter 11, so it could happen suddenly. If they have hope of surviving, they wouldn't stop rebates because if they did, word would get out and almost everyone would quit buying Remingtons. On the other hand, they would probably stop rebates if the execs decided to go Chapter 11 in a month or two because it would take longer than that for word to get out that they weren't honoring rebates. I'm not saying they're lying. It's just a hard business decision.

Anyway, for another $100, there are nicer guns... the Canik TP9, for example. I just got one for $309 from RK. Or the Taurus G2 Millennium has good reviews and it can be found for $199 occasionally.

We agree on the Canik TP9...very good guns. Especially when you can get them in the 300-350 range. As more and more people buy them, word is getting around about how good they are. So pricing has been creeping up recently. I got my first one for 229. But that was when they first began showing up. Never regretted it.

As for the Taurus, I haven't bought one in several years, but they generally have a good reputation. My personal favorite Taurus is an old PT100 in 40. Followed closely by the PT Millenium series guns. I sent one back last year during the "safety recall/upgrade/repair" and lost a great little 9mm. But did get a better(?) one in return. It was before all the replacement guns became available. My dealer harassed the CS people so much they just promised to send something quickly to get him off their backs. lol

I received a Gen2 PT24/7 and it's still in my safe. Maybe one day I'll shoot it.

I bought my kid a shotgun a couple of years back, and the rebate came fairly quickly. I wouldn't let that scare me away.
