Do retailers have any obligation to inform patrons of the fact that they serve alcohol? Some recent examples include a bowling alley, a family fish restraint, and a buffet restraint. On all three occasions I was inside for some time or on my way out before I observed someone in possession of an alcoholic beverage. No where in these examples were there any sighs on the door, near the entrance or any other indication that they served alcohol.

If we have to play by the rules the least they could do is post them.

I think part of the reason is they want the alcohol dollars without offending the church crowd.

It is almost like getting a speeding ticket without a speed limit sign to go by.

If they do have an obligation, what is the penalty to them?

Does it have any effect on the penalty to the HCP holder?

I believe there is some requirement for them to post a sign saying no weapons, but ultimately, the responsibility falls on you, the HCP holder. Ignorance is not an excuse.

They arent even obligated to do that.

There isnt a law that says 'well... since you serve alcohol in your establishment you have to post it.'

I'm guilty of what you described. However, if i'm entering a restaurant that i've never been to and am unsure if they serve alcohol i will typically see if their menu is posted online. This is usually the same menu they have in house and lists their alcoholic beverages.

If the restaurant doesnt have the luxury of having a website w\ menu posted you can always look around before being served. No harm in stepping outside for a minute or two to 'lock up' your firearm.

If they are serving alcohol they must have the liquor and/or beer licenses posted somewhere. Or at least that was my understanding of the law from a few years ago when I was still working as a bartender.

A quick look at their menu would reveal no or yes on alchohol.

They are required to post it in a prominent place, but necessarily the front door. It is a sign required by the Health Dept and different than the TCA posting rules.
