Glock 36 Slimline .45 for cc ...any opinions???

Hey Guys,

I was on the verge of buying a Glock 27 for cc, when someone introduced me to the Glock 36 Slimline. Do any of you have any experience with this firearm? Is the recoil manageable? ...anything I should know about it?

Any advice is appreciated.

I have had both and I would take my 27 any day. For size and thickness it wasn't that much smaller and the standard mag holds 9 verses 6. With a Glock 23 mag and a A&G extender it will hold 13. It was controllable but I still like my 27 better but to hedge my bets I recently picked up a Glock 30 with is just a little bigger than a G23 but hold 10 rounds of 45acp.

I looked at a 36 before I bought a 30. The downside to the 36 was decreased ammo capacity, and no other mags will fit. With the 30, mags from the 21 will also fit. 36 is thinner, but I will not carry the 30 anyways. I carry a 19. The 30 is a bug for the house.

I have had a G36 for several years, I bought it back when they first came out.

The G36 is roughly the size of a G19/23 (except thickness), so it is a little larger than the G26/27. I find the recoil very manageable. I used it to go through my HCP class. It was accurate, and performed flawlessly. As a matter fact, I don't recall ever having any sort of malfunction with it, at all.

The G36 seems to get a bad reputation, but I would have to disagree. Mine has been great.

Okay, well I should probably try to get one on the range to judge for myself. Thanks for the advice.

That is exactly what you should do! I carry a Glock 22 and shoot 1911s alot, but I don't like the snappy recoil of the 27 or 36. If I were to want to carry a little Glock MY choice would be the 26. You are right, you should shoot them all and form your own opinion as to what works for you, all these guns should work fine for concealed carry.

I love Glock, and I used to have a G21C and loved it, but it was too big and heavy to carry, IMHO there is better handguns out there for CCW than Glock. At this moment I carry S&W 642 and I`m more than happy, it is a perfect carry weapon for me, I don`t even need a holster for it, you can just slip the thing in your pocket and you`ll forget it`s there, and you`ll still have 5 rounds of .38 Special, wich is enough to get the job done.

I shot the Glock 26 and 27 side by side today at G&L. At 7 yards, my group with the 27 was the size of a softball and my group with the 26 was the size of a golf ball...actually smaller. There is a lot to be said for accuracy. I recently read an article published by the FBI and it made a lot of sense. It said that over-penetration with a handgun is almost a non-issue. Missing your target and hitting an innocent by-stander is more of an issue. I like Glocks. I own a Glock 22 and I've pumped a lot of rounds through it with no problems. I'm now leaning toward the 9mm for accuracy.

BTW, after shooting the sub-compact .40 I didn't even bother shooting the .45. I'm sure it is a nice gun, but I'm not sure I'd even hit paper with it.

I saw go with the Glock 30. More rounds, slightly thicker and just slightly longer if you use a factory floor plate on the magazine. Plus the Glock 36 parts aren't interchangeable with other models.

By and large the accuracy of the Glock models range from the .40 being the least accurate and the .45 ACP model 21 and 30 being the most. That has been my experience as well as Massad Ayoob who really knows more than I do.:puke: I have had 2 model 30s and they were tack drivers with recoil being very managable. The recoil of a .45 ACP is a push in the Glocks with the 9/40 being a sharp snap.Just my

I have the Glock 27 40.cal with pearce+1 grip exteions on both of my mags,it holds 10 instead of 9 and it gives your pinky finger something to hold on to with the recoil.10 in the mag and 1 in the pipe, its plenty of a handfull for me.and with the short grip it conceals very well.

I have a 26, it is also what I took the HCP class with. I was very close to getting a 27, but I was talked out of it by several people who either own both or have owned both. They are much better shots with the 26, the sharp recoil of the 27 makes it much harder to control well without a grip extension. The 26 is the way to go. If you need the grip extension, you are making the grip about as long as a 19 or 23.

In terms of energy, you can put more on target with +P or +P+ 9mm than you can with the .45 in the G36, especially with it being a shorter barrel .45. The holes are 2mm smaller in diameter sure, but the hole is not as important as the penetration to vitals, especially the CNS. If 2mms is the deciding factor in being successful or unsuccessful, you need to go stock up on some lottery tickets and get ready for the money to roll in and never go outside when its storming because you cant stop lightning with bullets.

Good points. Thanks. Do you carry the 26 daily? If so, how long have you carried it?

I am waiting for my permit to go through, so I haven't carried outside of my home yet, but I have been carrying it around the house OWB in a Fobus paddle and it is easy to conceal with a long shirt. Once the permit goes through, I'm probably going to get a SmartCarry holster for deeper concealment. Check out YouTube for smartcarry holster vidz. A guy over on glocktalk.com, passive101 I believe, has made several videos using a 26 in the holster. No the barrel is not pointed at your "junk" while you wear it like most people would have you believe, it is pointed at the ground between your legs. lol

edit: also, about the 36, it is considered the least reliable of all Glocks by many mot likely due to its unique single stack design. Also, with the single stack mag you are limited to standard factory mags. The 26 can use g17, 18 and 19 mags. 17, 33 and 15 rounds respectfully. How I'm going to carry it is with the stock mag no extension (to help concealment, it shoots very well without one trust me) and a G19 mag as backup. Plenty of firepower.

I have heard numerous stories about the 36 being problematic, it is unfortunate. It seems though that it's hit or miss, good ones are good and bad ones are bad. If you get a good one you probably wont have any issues with it. I wouldn't want to take that chance.

I've got a 36. To it's credit, it's functioned fine for about 500- 600 rounds. However, it just hasn't impressed me to the point that I'm positive it has a place here. One fewer rounds than my 1911, albeit slightly shorter. I keep thinking about selling it or trading it and getting a 26 or a 30, but it has performed well enough that I'm not ready to get rid of it yet. All in all, it just strikes me as...remarkably unremarkable.
