Military multitool?

Recommended Posts

I'm given to understand that the military has for some time been issuing multitools as part of a soldier's gear. Anyone know who scored the contract with that, and if there are near or equal versions of the tools in question, to where civilians may get em?

As the #1 selling multi-tool platform to the US military, the MP600 series has been to hell and back. Still inclusive of everything that makes the original great, this version of the tool features replaceable Tungsten Carbide wire cutters. Some situations require a little extra grit.

You can find them most anywhere that sells Multi-tools.

The military has gone through various brands and models of multi-tools, none exclusive to the military though.  My first issued multi-tool was a Leatherman, nothing special just the standard one, then they switched to Gerber, first the MP600 listed above, then this one which is my personal favorite: Gerber MP800, I like it because it has needle nose pliers, a replaceable grit saw, one handed blade and scissors and of course the replaceable carbide cutters.  The next runner up is the SOG EOD Multi-tool that I was also issued when I went to Sapper School, it has blasting cap crimpers built in, but I like it for the geared pliers.  I have a few of these tools, since many have good warranties I would send in broken ones I would find in the field, a few on/in the Hesco barriers we erected due to guys using them to twist/pry the heavy wire.

A friend has a non-magnetic Gerber I believe for EOD use.  As I remember, it had several purpose built functions, so maybe not ideal for normal use.

Dang, that sight tool instead of the Phillips on the regular model adds 30 clams to price!

I have a separate tool for that, and it was less than $10, heck this one is only $7, they can keep that model.
