Anyone betting their life or their family members' lives on the 2d Gen R51.

I bet Remington wishes they never went down the R51 road.  Even the 2d Gens seem to have issues, at least with magazines.  When I first held a 1st Gen I said to myself "I like the feel of this pistol."  I am glad I never purchased one.  But something about that full length backstrap grip safety made sense to me, more so even than the HK P7 front grip "safety" I used to have.

Not the R51 but I saw yesterday that CDNN has the RM380 and RP9 on sale for $169.99. I’m thinking Remington should have just stuck with long guns...

Or maybe just the pistol line in the way of XP 100's.

Man, you’ve been pining after one of these (or maybe what it should be) for what, three years?

I think you need to just go ahead and get one and get it out of your system.

It might be a dog - but if anyone can spend the time to be able to trust it - it’s probably you.  I’ve not spent a lot of time on the platform - but how many Kel-Tec’s Have you run over the years? It can’t be worse out of the box.

I contacted a professional gunsmith friend of mine about the R51 who I had not talked to about the R51 before.  Some years ago he and I were always monkeying around with something, then he gets out of the Army goes to the gunsmith school and moves far away and actually makes a living as a gunsmith.  I think I have my final answer:

They're terrible.

I was the only warranty center for them for about a year

They're the worst pistol I think I've ever screwed with, but they are mechanically fascinating.
