NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Predators hit the ice for their third home game of the season. In the crowd to watch were a few very special guests of defenseman P.K Subban.

P.K. has been very generous when it comes to charity. He has previously made headlines for donating millions to Montreal's Children's Hospital.

Now he has teamed up with the Metro Nashville Police Department and Nashville Inner City Ministry to make a difference in Smashville, one child and one officer at a time.

Beginning this season, Subban's new Blueline Buddies program brings in a police officer and a member of Nashville's youth to enjoy a night in Smashville at every home game.

"Bringing people together, building bridges. That's the responsibility of people that are in the public eye," Subban said.

There actually are good people out there. It's so refreshing these days to see a successful athlete that appreciates his good fortune and his community.

Neat.

I hadn’t heard about this, and I’ve been a supporter of and occasional volunteer at Inner City Ministries since my college days in the early ‘90s.  They do a lot of good work - especially with at risk youth.  It’s awesome to see them continuing to partner up in the community.

I really like Subban. ESPN's E:60 did a great profile on him last year. I like that he's a little flashier than some of the old guard. The NHL badly needed his level of enthusiasm.

J. J. Watt, #99 for the Houston Texans, appears to be cut of the same cloth. The lad put $100K of own cash up to help out with Harvey damage, and has raised more than thirty million.

He is, regrettably, out for the season, but I don't think his charitable works will suffer.

These two are bright lights in a dimming world of professional sport.
