Don't you know that those in power really do believe that they are special and above any laws they propose. I have no doubt he cold spew forth an endless amount of reasons why he can but we can't have guns.

there are several prominent antis who possess carry permits and own guns.

If I’m reading the story correctly surrendering his guns is a condition of bail. If he doesn’t want to do that he doesn’t have to; he can refuse and the Judge can revoke his bail and have him jailed.

Our elected officials really do believe that they are some sort of "gods" and the rules don't apply to them. Take note of what is happening with Lindsey Graham -R SC

"It's not that I THINK I'm smarter than the folks back in South Carolina. It's that I AM smarter than the folks back in South Carolina."

Over the past several weeks, as the roar of disapproval for Graham grew stronger by the day in South Carolina, Senator Graham's antics continued:

- At a function of La Raza, a Hispanic group whose primary goal is to reclaim the South Western United States for Mexico, by military force if necessary, he was asked his response to the folks back in South Carolina who opposed the amnesty portion of the immigration bill. His response: I'm going to "tell the bigots to shut up."

- On the Senate floor, Graham referred to his constituents in SC who disagreed with him on amnesty for illegal aliens as "those loud people", and vowed to ignore them.

- Senator Graham was moved to podium-slapping and near-tears in a floor speech as he pleaded for the rights of illegal aliens, foreign criminals, to reunite their entire families in the United States. This writer was reminded of his last emotional floor speech, when he passionately pleaded for the rights of terrorists, whose primary goal is to kill American children. It's interesting that there is no record of Senator Graham ever making an emotional speech on the Senate floor in defense of the protection and rights of South Carolinians, or US citizens at large.

I feel more every day that we need to clean out the government, and restore the founding documents, rules and laws to their rightful places as enforce rules in our society.

Just my opinion...

Another hypocrite. (I'm not completely against guns, I just don't want mere citizens to have them.) :D

TERM LIMITS!!!!!!

I can't say it enough. These guys get in power and then power corrupts. I understand it takes a certain type of person to get in to politics.

I think a better thing would be to LOWER their pay. This is the only job I know of where they have to vote AGAINST giving themselves a raise every year. Rediculous.

This man is only one broken tooth on the cog that is our government at this time. I am not a government conspiracy type, but I think this country would be in much better shape if it weren't for some of our politicians.

Term limits as a solution to corrupt polititians is IMHO akin to using a tourniquet on an intermediately bad wound. It appears to solve a problem but in the long run creates more problems than it solves.

Term limits don't solve a problem. They merely change the nature of it. Term limits can drive good hard working politicians out of office and necessarily replace them with folks that at the very least may not be up to the job at hand or are just plain corrupt and looking for the bonus bucks that can come with political office if that office is abused.

Under our political system we deserve the government we get. After all, it is us that keep electing the corrupt polititians with our vote or, more appropriately in many cases, lack of voting. Until people wake up and start getting their heads out of their asses when considering their vote or more importantly whether or not they even will vote, we will continue to be plagued by corrupt and/or power hungry polititians.

Keep in mind that the fine folks of Lousiana elected this Jefferson fellow AFTER they found just south of 100k in his freezer of all places. If he wasn't guilty of taking bribes he sure as heck was going to be guilty of tax evasion. Look at the wonderful citizens of Washington , D.C. that re elected Marion Barry to public office after his brush with the law regarding his cocaine abuse and proclivity to spend public funds on prostitutes. The folks in these places need to wqake up, quit bitchin' and moanin' about the sorry state of affairs of their districts and their elected officials and VOTE!

I do not believe in term limits for any office from the President on down to the City Councilman. Let term limits be set by the voters as was the opinion of our founding fathers. If the elected official is not living up to the promise that the voters felt at the time of their first election then get to work, expose the breach of trust, get the info to the people and the people to the polls.

Ok, that's my :D

I'm beginning to feel the same way. Graham and McCain are now circling the toilet thanks to the amnesty bill. Did you hear what Dianne Feinstein said over the weekend?

Time.com

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., complained that critics continue to use the word "amnesty" to refer to proposals to legalize immigrants who agreed to pay fines, learn English and, at some point, briefly return to their home countries before obtaining lawful status in the U.S.

"I've listened to talk show hosts drumming up the opposition by using this word 'amnesty' over and over and over again," she said. In her 15 years in the Senate, Feinstein said, "I've never received more hate or more racist phone calls and threats."

The libs and RINOs supporting this bill are trying to spin the overwhelming NO response as being bigoted and racist, therefore voting they way they want to vote the "right thing to do" in their eyes.

Phantom,

I would agree, except for the fact that often times, once they get elected, they do everything within their power to redraw the district lines to make sure they stay elected. Or they buy the elections (Ophilia Ford anyone) and when they get called on it, the "minorities" rush out in droves to "prove" that they voted this way. At least, that is how it is in Memphis. How many times have you heard about dead people voting etc.

Our former mayor (Hacket) was basically told that if he called for a re-count he and his family would suffer dearly. This is information I have 2nd hand knowledge of, and thinking more of his family than of the city of Memphis, he decided to "let" Harrington win.

Anyway...

People are too uninformed to vote these days. I heard a man on the radio yesterday say that he is likely to still vote for Harrington because he doesn't know enough about the others to vote for them. The radio host said that it was his job to find out about them.

Personally, I will probably vote for Chumney though I know she won't get elected.

Mayor Nagin "won" his election because the majority of his "constituents" were still spread across the country when it happened and about the only ones that were able to return to vote in the election were the ones bussed back from Houston. Yup, you heard it right, the city BUSSED them back in order to get the election.

First of all, you seem to paint with a very broad brush here which is undoubtedly caused by your view through your local political lense there in Memphis. All that aside, in our form of government the citizen is tasked with the burden of ferreting out the truth and the best candidate as best they can. If the citizen is too lazy to do that then the citizen deserves the government they get- good or bad. Until people get fed up with the BS that some politicians wallow in they will continue to let someone else make decisions for them at the polls. Is this a perfect system? No but in the long run it sure as hell beats the next best thing.

...People are too uninformed to vote these days. I heard a man on the radio yesterday say that he is likely to still vote for Harrington because he doesn't know enough about the others to vote for them. The radio host said that it was his job to find out about them.

Surely you are not suggesting that they either shouldn't vote at all or that someone else would be better able to make decisions for them. That's a self-fulfilling prophecy in that if they don't vote then someone else will certainly be making decisions for them. That radio host was correct if he was admonishing the caller to get out and do his due diligence in selecting a candidate for office.

Apparently you have done some research into who you believe the best candidate for the job at hand is there in Memphis. Now get out and not only vote yourself, but get others to the polls as well.

...Mayor Nagin "won" his election because the majority of his "constituents" were still spread across the country when it happened and about the only ones that were able to return to vote in the election were the ones bussed back from Houston. Yup, you heard it right, the city BUSSED them back in order to get the election.

Are you saying that Nagin is responsible for this? Not hardly. Nagin is only responsible for taking advantage of the situation and the poor citizens of New Orleans among many other mis-deeds. It is the citizens of New Orleans that are responsible for continuing Nagin's irresponsible tenure as Mayor of The Big Easy. Nagan and Blanco are the reason that so many residents that survived the storm suffered such physical and emotional insults though they attempt to turn it all on the federal government. I know from first hand knowledge that first responders from federal agencies like U.S. Dpt. of Health and Human Services were stymied for weeks after the storm and resulting disaster due to the fact that the governor's and the mayor's offices neglected to follow the procedures necessary to get their citizens the help that they needed. They (Nagin, Blanco and some other politicians of Louisiana) cared less for the suffering of their constituents and more for their own power and the results were fatal for some. If the citizenry of the Crescent City don't bother to ask the questions that will unearth the truth and continue to elect power mongers like C. Ray Nagin then shame on them and they will continue to suffer until they wake up and decide that they want something better for themselves, their children and their communities.

But, we drift off course of this topic.

Phanton - No I am not suggesting that they shouldn't be allowed to vote. I am only stating that they are idiots, and I do what I can locally to help "sway" the political landscape that is Memphis. Unfortunately, I do not have the ability to do more, though I have considered running for office.

We do drift off topic, but then again, that is what forums tend to do.

Unfortunately, you can only vote for people who will run. That's not quite correct, but is as a practicality.

NO voters had a choice between Nagan and his corrupt opponent. Great choice.

The problem is getting good people to run.

I'll bring us back on by saying that perhaps you should run for office. If you do though you'd best not have anything in your freezer but frozen dairy treats (I'm a big Nutty Buddy fan), pizzas, frozen vegitables and other food items.:2cents:

I for one favor term limitations. Elected officials all to often grow roots that are near impossible to stymie. One only need look as far as Knox County and its Commission. Voters cannot be trusted to vote responsibley, that is not to say voters should not be trusted to make choices but rather all to many are uneducated in these matters.

I cannot prove it from cited sources as my source is the History Channel but I remember seeing a show that was stating that the fathers of our country did not include term limits in laws. Their lack of foresight cannot really be criticized in my mind. Those people and I believe Jefferson in particular could not envison life long politicians running our country. I believe they were of the mindset that you do your duty then move on allowing other to do their duty.

Of course age expectantcy was not as great in the 1700's as it is today.

I do not think restricting pay would stop many from being elected time and again. Most if not all national level, even state level politico's are wealthy in their own rite and do not rely on income from their elected offices.

My .2 cents worth

Mike
