Sure it wasn't a Herron? We have one big Herron that claims this neighborhood, and several smaller ones. Night Herron is what I hear them called.

Ain't you never seen a Pelican?

There are quite a few up here on the east side around the lakes.  They build huge nests and crap prodigiously.

There is no mistaking a great blue herron for a pelican.

Like hipower said, I bet it's a herron.  I've already had to put the net over my koi pond because a couple have popped in on their way out of town.

We have so many Herron on Old Hickory that they crap in the trees on some of the islands during nesting and in just a couple years the trees are all dead and soon after that happens the islands eventually wash away..............

My ornithological skills are not finely honed, lol. Perhaps it was a herron. It just looked as out of place as the seagulls in the Kroger parking lot did a while back.

That's what he said, back on 30 September, when he mentioned sea gulls in the Kroger parking lot.

There are a ton of American White Pelicans on Old Hickory in the Gallatin area right now.  I've seen them several times.
