Red grips...............

When I was a young tad, my Dad took me to a rodeo.  It took place at the Memphis Fairgrounds, where the high school football field is now, Ken Maynard was the star of the rodeo.  During intermission, Dad took me to the concession stand for a coke and hot dog.  While we were there I saw a cowboy, dressed in Levi's and leather chaps, and wearing a holster and gun belt, in which he had a "red handled gun" as I remembered it.  Single Action or not, I can't say, as for a few years after I was born I did not know too much about guns.  But those red grips!!

I determined then and there I would have a gun with "red handles."  Many years apassed, but then one day, from Don Collins of Collinscraft Grips I got these:

They are for a Ruger Super Blackhawk grip frame, and are vermilion wood from Africa, i think.

Mighty nice.  It's always fun to realize a childhood dream.  Thanks for sharing this story.

There's something special about a good single action.  I have a Ruger .44 Special that shoots like a laser and that I will keep as long as I live.

Cheers,

Gorgeous grips! There's just something about nice wood grips on a pistol. Especially on a revolver...of any type.

Not a big SA fan, but I have 3 that might benefit from something like that. Probably won't happen though. Two of them are Colt SA Commerative 22s from the 60s era. Both came from my father-in-law. One I bought from him, the other he gave to my wife. Good odds they will never be shot.

The third however, is joy to shoot. I got this from a now living in Knoxville member; a Ruger New Model Vaquero in 45acp. I take it out  every now and then. It never fails to get attention.
