Glowforge Laser Cutter/Engraver

Well we got it up and running.  We ended up doing a DIY venting system.  This should hold us over till the Glowforge filter is ready at the end of the year.

This unit will cut and engrave all sorts of materials: wood, laminate, paper, cardboard, acrylic, plastic etc.  It will not cut or engrave metal.  It will mark the metal if it has been anodized, like MacBook laptops.  All of their cases are anodized.  What is does is remove the coating so you can see the image.

We have been playing around with 1/4" wood, cardboard and some acrylic.

Here are some pics of some of our test files:

The Darth Vader is acrylic and then next two are blank coasters, cardboard and cork, we engraved.

Here is a video of it cutting our logo out of 1/4" wood.

This is going to be a fun little tool.  The possibilities are endless for what you can do with this.

Do not get a finger in there:wall: Can you "scan" a pic and use the pic?

People have already tried the laser tattoo. You can find videos on YouTube.

The picture thing could be real interesting. The spongebob was done from a color pic. We scanned it in and converted it to grayscale. It turned out pretty good.  We are going to test a picture of person. If it turns out good it opens the possibilities to make some cool personalized gifts.
