SHTF Water Storage - Water Bob

water weighs 9.6 pounds per gallon. Regardless of what large container you use, you aren't going to move it once it is full. If that tub buddy thing is full, the weight will be close to 1000 lbs.

A full water heater with a strainer to filter out any sediment is a good way to go. It's already been "boiled" to an extent.

Why not just clean up the tub and fill it with water? Seems like a waste of money to me.

Idea is to keep it sealed and clean for a month or so.

Water sitting in a tub would tend to get kinda funky after a couple of weeks.

If it doesn't leak out.

You had better have water on hand if its going to last a month. One person could make it last that long if its used for little else but drinking and cooking.

Water weighs 8.34 lbs per gallon and any quantity over about 20 gals, depending on the container, will be difficult to move.

I think any stored water, even city water, should be treated when obtained and boiled and filtered before use. If you're in a SHTF situation you certainly don't want to get sick due to bad water or food.

Add 16 drops (1/8 teaspoon) of bleach per gallon of water, stir, and let stand for 30 minutes. The water should have a slight bleach odor. If it doesn’t, then repeat the dosage and let stand another 15 minutes. If it still does not smell of chlorine, discard it and find another source of water.

Before use means even if you're just going to wash Mr. Sandman out of your eyes or brush your teeth.

I can never remember exactly how many drops of bleach per gallon of water, but this part is easy to remember.

You can very easily overdo it with bleach. Instead of using something that has other substances in it when you just want the chlorine, just go to a pool supply place and buy some chlorine.

Or, use clean containers and rotate your water every six months or so.

It has to be straight bleach. No scents or softners.
