I had one of these my dad bought me when I was a kid.

He got rid of it for some reason and I always wanted another because it was such a fun little pistol to shoot.

Finally picked up another yesterday.

Beautiful gun.  I don't have a Ruger Single Six but I do have a much less expensive Heritage Rough Rider .22 combo.  A single action .22 is a heck of a lot of fun and a .22WMR from a 6.5 inch barrel can quickly and humanely dispatch a nuisance possum.

I've got some Speer Gold Dot 22wmr that should do well in it. :)

Back when I was just a kid of age 13 and gun laws were no where near what they are today I bought a Colt 22 cal single action 6. Blue with 5 inch barrel and bone handles and paid $39.00 for it and bought and fast draw cowboy type holster out fit for it with leg tie down and all. My hunting buddy bought a Ruger single 6 with a 7.5 inch barrel and also the holster sit up and we practiced shootng them till we were god enough to wear them for hunting rabbits with them. We also carried shotguns and had beagles to hunt with. If we got a rabbit sitting tight one of us that had the best shot would use to pistol to shoot and save digging out all the lead shot before cooking them. On most days we would get at least 3 or 4 with the pistols. I had the gun till I went in service and when I came home my baby brother had laid claim to it so I let him have it. I also had a Heritage Rough Rider with interchangable cylinders and could shoot 22 lr or 22 Mags. Son in law was having varmint issues with his chicken house and he has it and has been using it for about 5 years now so I guess he has claimed it as his own. One of these days I will give him a bill for it..............LMAO

Nice.  I had a blue convertible I got in 6th or 7th grade.  Don't recall the barrel length because for some reason Ruger SA's come in bizzare lengths.  It was in the neighborhood of 6".

Sold it and bought a Mark II bull barrel just out of college.  Still have that and it's one of my favorites.

Now I have two Bearcats.  Those are a hoot.

Yes, it will.  I can tell you, however, that Hornady Critical Defense does slightly better out of my 6.5 inch Heritage.  The Gold Dot is certainly no slouch.  In my unscientific gallon water jug test Gold Dot kind of over expanded a little out of the Heritage - in other words the petals bent back far enough that it reduced in size, again, after expanding but still does well.  Out of the longer barrel the Gold Dot dumped a lot of energy early and very impressively split the first jug in line.  The Gold Dots kick the crap out of the performance of the Hornady out of my 1 5/8 inch barreled NAA mini revolver, however.  The Hornady was actually very disappointing out of the NAA - not much expansion and seemed to barely get into the third jug.  The Gold Dot out of the NAA looked almost identical to the picture of the expanded round on the box, went through three gallon jugs, poked a hole in the face of a fourth, rebounded and was found in the third.  It wouldn't be my first choice but I honestly would not in any way feel 'unarmed' even against a two-legged critter with a reliable handgun loaded with those Gold Dots.

Nice Ruger, here is my Heritage and a HR 9 shot made in 1953, shoots like a dream. Yall with a Heritage be careful with the 22 mags, frame has been known to crack.

The first 22 revolver I owned was a Ruger Bearcat.  That was somewhere in the early 1960's.  It was a fine little revolver but very small.  Then in the late 1960's I came into a Single Six Convertible with both cylinders and fixed sights (the Super Single Six had the adjustable sights).  Can't remember how, but I sold or traded off both of these fine revolvers.  Now I have only their memory and seller's remourse.
