Springfield XD-E

Defender

Recommended Posts

Just saw a review of this compact 9 and I must say I like it.  I've been looking for a pocket 9 for a while now, and I really like this one.  Need to find one and see if it is pocket size.  I love the way it offers several carry configurations with both a safety/decocker and a trigger, with da/sa options.  Normally I like bigger guns but I want to replace my 380 pocket gun with a 9mm.  Anyone try this gun yet?

Steelharp nailed it. It's a bit bigger in every way, especially width with the ambi safety, than the XDs.  It also felt really top heavy, and heavy in general for a poly single stack. I feel like a Sig 938 or Kimber Micro 9 would be a much better choice for someone who wanted 1911ish controls on a smaller 9mm.

Wow, out of curiosity I looked up the weight of the XDe... Springfield lists it as 25oz. Kimber lists the Micro 9 as 15.6 oz, and the 938 is an identical 15.6 oz empty, 17.4oz with 6 in the mag.

Springfield says it is an XDS with a hammer. Methinks their marketing people are all blind, deaf and dumb.

Bigger in every way, heavier by a lot, horrible trigger and feels pretty much like a brick in hand. I handled one for 15 seconds and gave it right back to the store clerk.

I love the XDS, but the XDE is a HUGE failure.

I'll only speak for my experience. I have a 3.3 in .45 and though not a pocket gun it's small for the muscle, but the trigger SUCKS!  I haven't got a way to measure the trigger pull but dayum! It never gets shot, I either gotta have another trigger or off it goes.......

Yeah, well, we all have our butt kicker. Mine's a Colt Magnum Carry I let go for $400 years ago...

Too many to list for me to pick just one.  I've been blessed/cursed to have a lot go thru my paws in my life.

To me, that's true of the entire XD line vs. most of its competitors. Just look at how "tall" the slide is vs. a Glock, M&P, and most Sigs and you'll see that there's a lot more steel up top on an XD than those others. I shoot them well enough, but that weight was eventually more than I wanted to bother with and happily sold my XDsc. It's the only handgun I've ever sold that I don't wish I had back.
