Not to rub it in, but I hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim with a 70 year old leukemia survivor several years ago.  He and his wife have hiked several 14ers since.  I feel like age is just a number and the actual number is a lot less important than the wear and tear and accumulation of injuries along the way.

I agree with you. My plan was to return to the Grand Canyon and do some of the hiking tours. Time and life got involved in my plans, then several surgeries added to the delays. 

Now, I just want to be able to walk for a distance with out problems. Not giving up on that goal for the Canyon; just re-evaluating my own capabilities within the finite time I have left here.

My friend was on his deathbed and at one point, was expected to be gone in 24 hours.  Then he made it another 48, then two weeks, and gradually got better.  Keep the faith.  I hope you make it to the Canyon.  Just walking a mile down reveals a completely different world.
