I've actually seen this before. You hit the pole just right and the bottom 5-6 feet pop straight out. The the rest of the pole falls straight down onto the vehicle. Kinda weird, but it does happen.

True, hipower. Folks back in the day hunted & eat possum. Can't speak to the coon gravy thing . Maybe so.
