I was in grade school in the 70's. I never thought we were tough but, now I know we were tough as nails, compared to todays kids.

All we needed was a little mercurochrome and a bandaid to get back into action…if even that.  😀

We used to get in the swings at the playground,  and get as high as we could then jump out. Drove the teachers crazy. As far as I remember, no kid ever got a trip to the hospital.

Same here.  Those old swing sets were stupid tall with seats like two feet off the ground.  Could really catch some air when you got going and jumped out.

Sadly they finally took out the old swing set and tall metal slides from the elementary school near my house. Remember burning the 💩out of yourself on those metal slides in the summer.

Good times for sure.

I probably should have gone to the hospital once in 4th grade...  I'm not sure exactly what happened, probably because I whacked my head in the process.  Our playground had 1 really low swing. I think I caught my foot on the forward swing and faceplanted and slid for a ways. I knew it hurt and i was bleeding a little, but I never went to the bathroom to look in the mirror.

Mom went nuts when she got home. I had rash down one side of my face, a knot on my forehead, and was filthy having slid across the dirt. Getting cleaned up was unpleasant.

Mom went to school with me the next day and tore my teacher and the principal a new one over them having let me sit through the rest of the school day like that without doing anything.

Well I sure did. Broke my arm jumping out of a swing at school.

Ugggggh . . . Kind of reminds me of Kentucky Conan!

I'm pretty sure David will give someone 2 weeks of shore leave to "think about your actions" if that ever gets posted again.  😄

I've already tried bleach in the eyes. Don't waste your time. Didn't work.

The brain is hurting now. Where can I get shock therapy?

We did a variation called "bailing out". You get as high as you can, then flip your feet up over your head and (hopefully) land on your feet below the swing. No broken bones that I recall, and lordie! we did it without helmets and elbow or knee pads.
