Help on Selling Guns?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hello, I am a new member trying to sell some guns. I have done my best online research in attempt to find a decent price range for my guns but have come up short. Do I need to find an appraiser? And if so, does anybody know of an appraiser near Chattanooga? Thanks

Gunbroker.com is a good place to get an idea of what your mid- to high- end pricing is going to be on a used firearm.  Once you are ready to sell them here, pick up a Benefactor membership and I am sure you won't have much trouble selling as long as they are priced fairly.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I will do that. And one thing, should I do the same thing for some antique guns that I am trying to sell? Thanks

Ditto on Gunbroker, BUT go to the Advanced Search and check completed auctions. This will tell what the guns are actually selling for. I pretty sure you have to register as a member to get that function.

You do have to register to use the Advanced Search.

This would just be my idea but if you are planning on becoming a Benefactor here on TGO you might want to become one and begin by putting some of your guns here and see what people can give you as far as information goes. You will not find a finer bunch of honest folks that will give you a more honest opinion about what you have to sell. Many of them will even help you research some of your older guns to assist you in your pricing high and low ends. You are not required to sell the guns to just post them and ask for help but if you do deside to sell them on here your already a Benefactor and can just begin posting them up for sale........JMHO

All good advice here. I can tell you I have used that Advanced search feature on completed auctions many times as a buyer and a seller to try to figure going rates.

I would add this however. I find, for at least some items, that the GB average, even if you throw out the high and low prices, still seems a bit higher than normal person to person local values. So, I take the average and decrease it a little, and go from there for a local deal, person to person.

If you were auctioning stuff on GB, or if you were a retail establishment, I would just roll with what you see on GB.
