Sorry about that! I think I got it now.

I was going to sleep with her tonight, but my wife said if I did, it would have to be on the couch. Guess Mabelle will have to become the Queen of my Safe!

Thanks for the help guys!!!

Thanks you all! I was lucky enough to be issued one on the Army Reserve Team I used to shoot on. They were sweet! While I don't expect this one to be in the same ball park as that one, I still think it will be fun to take out and burn some ammo with. Just wish 7.62x51 wasn't so danged expensive!

What's going to happen is next Moped will have to put a Douglas NM barrel on it, then he'll have to glass bed it, and then there's that A.R.M.S. mount, and all that NM stuff, and someday he'll realize like me that that Sub-MOA gun cost him ..... It's all worth it when it works right...

An M14/M1A is high on my list of guns I'd like to own.....someday....someday..... I've heard great things about the polytechs due to the forged receivers assuming you change out the other parts with G.I. parts.

An M14/M1A is high on my list of guns I'd like to own.....someday....someday..... I've heard great things about the polytechs due to the forged receivers assuming you change out the other parts with G.I. parts.

The polytech receiver is a great place to start because it's one of the few out there that's mil spec. They also used a lot of GI parts building them. That's strike 1 (springfields are hit and miss after ser#90k for being in spec), and strike 2 (there are not any more piles of GI parts around like 10-15 years ago), and companies like Springfield are making their own out of spec parts now. Clinton cut up about 300,000 M14s in the late 1980's and all those parts went to people like me.

The only thing wrong with polytech's are the bolts, which are cast and soft. Usually the internals are all USGI.

Trigger packs were $20.00 in 1990. Today, $300.00, if you can find one.

I built my rifle in 1989 from a pawn shop shot-out match gun. I threw about $2000 at it in 1989 dollars. to build it today, that would be $4,000+. The only thing not GI is the receiver and the stock.

I will never build another match gun. I was told by the smith it would be about $200.00.... then $200 more then 200 more and so on and so on... BTW, you need to look at that target counter-clockwise. That was sighting in with 3/3 shot groups. 2 clicks and upper right, 4 more clicks and upper left

Oh, I know how much it cost to build a match gun. Personally, if I were going to build a match gun, I'd probably go with an AR. It costs a lot less and from what I understand that's what everyone shoots now. When I was shooting with the Army Reserve Team here in Tennessee, we still shot the M14 NM, but the All Army Team was in the process of switching over to the AR. Some of our team members bought ARs to convert, but I didn't have the money to purchase one.

I still love the feel of the M14 though and have always wanted another one since left the Army Reserve. This was my first chance to get one that I could afford.

That's a nice looking setup there gcrookston! I hope you still get it out and shoot it from time to time!

What kind of glass did you decide on for that gcrookston?

16x Mk4 Leupold.

There was a sporting goods store in Denver years ago called Gart Brothers. They've since been bought out. But they had a policy that anything that didn't sell in 90 days got marked down 50% for another 90 days, then marked down another 50%. $399.00 from $1,599.00 in 1987 dollars. I don't know what they cost today

Moped, it's one of the benefits of having more than one gun. I pull out 3 or 4 and take them to the range without a worry of shooting out one or another. It gets shot about twice a year. Since I built it the round round count is only up to 1,500. I shot it last at Christmas (20 rounds). The tape on the magazines is a hold over from the Clinton days, I "found" some LEO mags at a discount.

Dang, I'm getting old. That tape has been on those mags for over a decade.

Some will be critical of the bi-pod placement. The gas hole in the stock is perfect. But it stops the gas from venting and all the crud ends up in the stock instead of outside, as designed. If you look at most military M21 and M24 you'll find that they set up the rifle the same way, blocking out the weep-hole. I patterned this rifle off of one I saw at Little creek -- the only difference between this one than that one is the receiver.
