PMag problem with S&W M&P AR-15

Hey Guys,

Newbie here. This may have been discussed already, but I'm still figuring out how to use the site. I recently bought several MagPul mags for my M&P 15, but they don't lock into the magwell. i called MagPul and they said the PMags don't fit the M&P 15 and that the lower would have to be sent back to the manufacturer to be modified. Has anyone else had experience with this? Is there another alternative?

Thanks in advance,

Jason

That sounds kind of odd, will a regular "generic" AR mag fit in the gun?

I believe its because S&W doesnt exactly privy their designs to milspec. As most lower receivers are mil spec... most magazines are made to mil spec. It would probably be cheaper to mod the magazine.

regular metal mags work fine. It's just the Pmags I'm having trouble with. None of them work.

Thanks for the link. I just need to contact S&W. I've tried a couple of times, but was on hold for a while and hung up.

I had to sand just a little on the corners by the trigger guard. It doesn't take much to make them work. They are suppose to have it fixed on the newer ones.

on the corners of the mags or inside the well?

Inside the well. Personally, I would rather have a rifle that would accept any mags avaliable that only mags modified to fit that rifle.

If you put the mag in you can see where the rib on the back starts hitting the two corners where the mag well and the hole for the trigger guard meet (at least on mine).

It wouldn't be hard to modify the mags either or I'm sure S&W would fix it for you. their customer service is good. Slow but good.

Early S&W AR receivers had problems with PMAGs. You probably have one of those. The problem was corrected in later receivers.

I have heard that S&W will fix the problem if you contact them.

The problem can’t be fixed. You need to buy better mags.

I’ll do you a favor and take those POS PMags off your hands.

It took six weeks for me to get these PMags. I'll sell them to you, but it'll cost ya :-)

+1

Known "issue" with earlier M&P rifles.

I still dont get the big deal about pmags.

Meh, they look cool, and a few months ago when they were readily available, were actually pretty cheap.

Nor do I. When I tested them, I had problems with "failure-to-lock-back" with two otherwise 100% reliable AR15s.

I'll stick with USGI mags.

Is this an empty or full mag?

Either. The mags don't lock. I have 4 of them and all of them do it.

I have experienced a couple of times full PMAGS not locking but when I remove one or two pieces of ammo, they work fine. I'll stick with GI mags on all new purchases.

Interesting. I have several PMags, and they all function perfectly in my both of my ARs. No problems in locking back the BCG.

What brand lower do you have? It is the S&W M&P that has probs with the PMags.
