Going to pour a concrete shooting bench tomorrow

Finally got the mold finished, hope to get it poured tomorrow or Wednesday.

Wow that is gonna be heavy. What are you using for the base?

I figure about 300 or so. Going to set it on some concrete blocks. Probably have to pour some footers.

We have several of these at the club.  They are one concrete  blocks.  They do not move.  Also we made some out of wood.  In the long run the wood ones were better.  Can move them and wood does not eat up you gun like concrete  can.

This is probably gonna sound strange but could you post a picture of what it's gonna look like completed? I can't picture in my mind what in the heck it is, lol, as I only go to one range and that's Bud's in Sevierville, an indoor range.

That is the top. It will sit on a wall of blocks that run down the middle or three columns with two at the front corners and a column at the rear.

Oh ok I see. I've saw those on a few You Tube video's. Is there not suppose to be a cover or something over the concrete? It looks to me like it would scratch a firearm up unless it was laid down very carefully. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Many have some type of outdoor or marine grade carpeting on the top.  I still lay on old blanket over the top of that.

I wouldn't mind if you shared plans for the wooden tables.  I have 300 yards of flat back yard that I would like to stage in 100 yard increments. It would be nice to have a stable, yet portable, table versus concrete.

Most folks bring their own carpet remnant or pad with them when they know they are going to shoot on those. They make a very nice platform for shooting.

Some ranges I've been to even hand out a nice carpet pad when you sign in for shooting.

 I use a yoga mat that I picked up cheap at TJ Maxx. Lighter and smaller than carpet.

Lots of flooring places have the sample carpet pieces that actually have an edge put on them. When we needed some for a project once, I think they were $1.00 each for ones that were old colors. They were 18x18 or maybe 24x24, I can't quite remember.

Yoga mats are great for that. Don't know about the Yoga though.

We did all the tops in our house when we built 10 or so years ago. They worked out nicely although it was a lot of work. We pre-cast them rather than doing the pour in place. Granite has gotten a lot cheaper these days, so I'm not sure we would do it again. But it's kinda like building you're own gun, you have something special to be proud of afterward.

Got it poured on Thursday. Got the driveway section finished up as well with a total of 40.5 yards. Not bad for two guys getting it all done over three half days.

Haven't stripped it yet so don't know what the business side is going to look like. I vibrated it so hopefully it will look ok. The battery in my vibrator has about had it so didn't get as much as I would have liked.
