Bills you may want to watch. - Discussion

WOW!!! ...what a really great bill SB0211 is. Not only does it allow those with a HCP to carry in Public Parks (and the rest of the places in 39-17-1311) it says 39-17-1359 would not apply to those places so the state or local goverments could not post a park.

It also, like another bill, would allow handgun carry, by those with a permit, while hunting.

It is nice to finally see some clean bills in the House and Senate. I am glad that a couple will allow those of us with permits to carry while bowhunting and on public lands like parks and WMA's. It is a hassle always carrying a full sized 22LR pistol (legal with squirrels, coyotes) on WMA land while walking. I would prefer my Glock (lighter weight).

With the right committee chairmen, the right legislature, and a governor who seems open to new ideas, we might have some improvements this year.

I'm confused. This bill will a) legalize carry where alcohol is served and :tough: make carrying where alcohol is serves reason to revoke a carry permit?

No, it means that 39-17-1305 would be amended to allow carry where alcohol is served for onsite consumption, as long as the HCP holder is not consuming alcohol.

Also it says that if you are convicted of violating 39-17-1305 AS AMENDED (consuming alcohol in a place that serves alcohol for onsite consumption) you could have your HCP revoked.

You have to look at the whole bill. Yes one part says you could have your HCP revoked for a violation of 39-17-1305, but it also changes 39-17-1305 to allow carry as long as you are not consuming.

A few quick updates

The Tennessee legislative bill cutoff is Thursday, Feb. 12 for the Senate. If you are working with any Senators on legislation, make sure that a bill or bills on your issues are introduced by Thursday. I have seen already drafts of more than 50 bills on 2nd Amendment issues and I expect the total bill filings for all bills will jump by more than a thousand this week.
