Tin Foil Logic for Libs

I was speaking with my liberal, progressive high school buddy about the recent shootings.

We differ AND agree on the 2A and all the subsidiary gun related topics we discuss.

I can always trump him with, "I do not care what .gov does to make it impossible for BGs or the mentally ill to have or use guns, so long as it does not adversely impact me."

Yesterday he brought up "Common Sense Gun Control Laws," with one point being a national .gov registry.

"Wouldn't you pay a nominal $20 to eliminate future liability [in the event you sell your gun to someone who can't legally buy or possess] it's almost like the warranty they offer at Wal-Mart, for 5.99 you can..."

"No, I would not, I am willing to take responsibility for my actions."

Then I told the story of what can happen when our friendly .gov has the power to disarm the populace. While it would never happen here, authoritarian / totalarian have a track record of oppressing unarmed citizens.

"The government does not have the resources or manpower to confiscate your guns. It is absurd to suggest they would go door to door to take them."

True, so true but what if they send you a letter. Poof, you are a law breaker and subject to the police power of government. It costs them a stamp to make you a criminal.

Then I added fear.

"You told me Trump and his Minions as well as the Republican Party will do anything to win. You told me Trump is ruling by executive Fiat, that he would be an excellent oligarch, that he is ignoring the rule of law, thumbing his nose at the other branches of government, ad infinitum.

If all these statements about Trump are true, he has opened the door for the creation of a tyrannical form of government.

What does the Trump Train look like 25 - 50 years from now from a liberal progressive viewpoint.

Still want that gun registration?

I personally don't believe liberals deal in logic. They do however deal with oppression, hate, deceit, socialism and outright lies. I know there are other adjectives for them but you get the idea.

Left and right believe in many end beliefs.....the problem is they usually have a much different way of getting there and if you aren't using their way then they start the name calling and the rest that goes with it.

I got the same "common sense" registration argument from a coworker the other day. He opined that registration would provide extra motivation for people to not leave guns laying around and make it easier for the cops to determine who owns guns used in crimes. He compared it to car registration.

My response was ... so you're saying a car owner should have some liability if they leave their car unlocked and it gets stolen and used in a crime?

No, I'm just talking about all these cases where kids pick up guns left laying about and shoot one another.

How is registration going to fix that?

It'll give people incentive to not leave guns laying around.

So fear of liability?  How's that any different from now?  In most instances like that I'm aware of, the owner of the gun has been quite easy to find.  And you think people who would otherwise leave a loaded gun laying around in the presence of small children will be motivated by knowing their gun is registered?

Yes.

Um... ok.
