nope, if I remember it was Reagan.

could have bought one for $2500 or less in 1986........ sadly I had to pass I had no dough.

This is 100% spot on.

This is a direct result of the May 19th, 1986 Firearm Owners Protection Act.  Since there is a finite number of transferable machine guns by the general populace that whole supply and demand thing kicks in.
