What I found interesting was the apparent frequent use of the PPSH-41 by our troops on patrol.

Unless they need the ability to defeat light armor with the caliber, I'm guessing the volume of hate it can throw has it's place in this environment?

Either one has at least a 90% chance of dying in enemy hands if taken prisoner.

I didn't realize the Soviets had similar helmets to the Germans.

Given their (clothing, obviously,) rifles and that sweet watch, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they're somehow associated with '80s Afghanistan. Mujahideen, Soviets having fun, Americans of some stripe, etc.
