That might be why.

It is interesting how so many of the “blasters” in the original StarWars look to be modifications of German WWII weapons

Off the top of my head, I remember these:

Sterling, SMG, Lewis LMG, Mauser C96, MG34, Lee Enfield, and the princess used a Russian target pistol.
