RIP Chris Cornell

He was truly talented! This is a shame. 3 kids and one of the best voices of this generation.

He had some dark music and I guess a dark life. Very sad!

RIP

Really hated to hear this. I watched a couple videos from the Detroit concert that people posted yesterday and he definitely seemed like he was in a bad place. Hard to imagine things being bad enough to do this but no telling what was going on. RIP

I remember seeing Soundgarden at Lalapolusa in the 90's. Great energy from him. He fronted so many great bands. It is a real loss.

Black Hole Sun was what made me want to learn guitar. Only riffs I finally learned before stopping.

Someone once said that to be that creative and produce music that inspired emotion, you must be in pain. I guess whatever pain he had became too much.

I am stunned to not see this posted already.

I footnoted it over in the Kill a rattlesnake thread since we were talking about metal music.

This article makes a point I hadn't thought of...   Eddie Vedder is the only one left.

Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Curt Cobain, Scott Weiland, ....

And no disrespect to Jerry Cantrell, but I think he would agree.

I'm out of touch I guess, Cobain is the only name I recognized, and him only barely.

The northwest is the capital of depression and suicide. I have spent some time near Seattle and I could see how some with emotional instability could take the dark skies and rainy climate depressing. Personally i see the beauty it brings. The Puget Sound area is one of the most beautiful places we have in this great land of ours. Rain brings life and growth.

Of course that area is extremely liberal and that probably contributes to the mass depression. They are also wired on caffein!

I still don't get it, it could always be worse. Make the most of what you have and what's around you.

I was in graduate school in Seattle in the mid-90's.  It was a year or two after peak-grunge, but it was a great place musically (I still mourn KMTT The Mountain.)

I needed a few more hours one semester and actually ended up in a class with Chris Cornell's mom.  Two things struck me, even then.  One, it was cool of him to pay for his mom to go to school.  Second, she was so proud of him.

Depression is a disease and it can affect anyone.  Man, if you need help - talk to someone.  There are a bunch of us here who would drop what were doing to climb down in that hole with you.

He'll be sorely missed.

This hurt me bad. I've never been a big fan of Nirvana or Pearl Jam but AIC and the bands Chris fronted rocked my little slice of the world. Let's add Scott Weilend to that list too. Just, Damn. Words are hard to come by to express my sadness at all the loss.  This loss and the way it seems to have gone down was something I never expected. Thank you Chris for the great entertainement you gave me.

It bothered me way more than I thought it would.... I saw Soundgarden twice and Audioslave 3 times...

"Friends and liars don't wait for me,
'Cause I'll get on all by myself.
I put millions of miles under my heels;
And still too close to you, I feel, yeah."

I wonder if Eddie Vedder is calling up Willie Nelson and asking for advice?
