I have worked up a load with a 245 grain home hard cast Keith style bullet over H110 around 1200fps through a 6.5 inch ported .44 magnum. I hope to hunt some hogs around middle TN this coming fall. Does any one have some first hand knowledge they wouldn't care to share. I have never hunted hand gun and was wondering about performance on tough skinned hogs. I get around 14 inches of penetration in slightly damp red clay no expansion. Thanks William.:)

Why wait till next fall? Hog is open year round except most WMA's. The big south fork is open for hog until mid-feb usually, unless they closed it. They do limit hunting them with dogs.

245@1200 sounds kinda mild for that barrel length. That's close to what I'm running out of a 4" 629 (240@1210) with a minimum charge of accurate #5. For hog, you might want to consider pumping that up a little. I guess it would work though.

I had run them across a chrony a month ago I'm thinking that it was 1270 for the 6.5" but I don't have the paper with me. I bought a 4" ported model a month ago I was hoping to get 1200 fps through it. I have not had a chance to test it out, but it may end up being my woods gun. I would love to go hunting but right now things where I work don't look too good, and I better work while I can. I may have a lot of free time this fall to hunt and camp if things don't pick up.
