Now I'm confused...in the article referenced above (in post 26) the bad guys name is Joseph McGrotha. In the OP's first post the BG's name is Tim Palmer.

What gives?

Zombies do not die when you shoot them in the body. That is why it is IMPORTANT to shoot them in the head! And if you miss you have a chance of hitting him in the eyes therefore blinding him :D. I'm glad the story ended in the way that it did. It is unfortunate and very scary at the same time.

The head shots were at 13 yrds and the body shots were at 25 yards or so. Or all the way back at the indoor range.

Which range?

I also received the same training 2 to center of mass if no effect then 1 to the head unless there is danger to others from the shot. If unable to use head shot continue center of mass until it no longer poses a threat.

I dont carry a spare magazine. I guess Im going to have to rethink that.

You don't carry a spare magazine? Good God why not?

You do know that the most common failures that befall modern semi auto handguns are magazine related don't you? Maybe you would never need a reload in a typical gun fight. But what will you do if you have need to use your gun and the mag craps out on you after one shot?

Always carry a spare mag. Same reason that you carry a gun. You hope to never need it but if you do, it's there.

You hope you never need a reload, but if you do, it's there. Except if you don't carry one, then you're screwed.

I teach my Officers to keep firing until the threat stops. Both of my shootings only took 1 round each to stop the threat but I used a 12 ga. slug on one and a .45 cal. on the other. Proper bullet placement helps, but when the adrenaline is flowing it's hard to do.

Tis true, you shoot a man in the leg with a slug, he generally has trouble walking toward you....threat has stopped, at least stopped walking. :)
