Well, damn! After 4 weeks of the lender screwing around with my pre-approval, the land has already come under contract. I'm back to the searching phase. :(

Sorry to hear that. 

I would suggest you get a standing pre-approval for more than you think you need so that the next one you find can go quicker. I did that with ac ouple differtn things in the past.

Yeah, I already have one for buying an existing home through VA up to $417,000, but doing a VA Construction Loan is a lot harder, apparently. One challenge is finding a company that will actually do them. The other is the construction loan has different government bureaucratic BS rules on the back end making it harder to get it done. I either have to buy what's already built, or find a builder who will acquire the land and do the construction for me to close on it with a regular VA loan.

They always find ways to make it harder. I have always heard that all constriuction loads are harder anyway
