Georgia College Carry

Recommended Posts

The Georgia legislature recently passed a bill to legalize college carry.  The governor now can veto or let the bill become law.

North Carolina now will be the only state bordering Tennessee that has not legalized college carry for people with a license.

We are hoping he won't veto it like he did last year.  In order to address his issues with the bill, it was severely watered down with amendments  (no carry in faculty, staff, administrative offices or disciplinary hearings, can't carry where high schoolers attend classes), but it will better than what we have now.

It will be most helpful to prevent invisible gotcha zones where campuses are located in cities and there is not an obvious border between the campus and the real world.

Governor signed this one into law this week.  A lot of us weren't sure if he would actually sign it.  There has been much gnashing of teeth and wailing by those members of society who lovingly thanked Deal for last year's veto of a similar bill.

GeorgiaCarry.Org will use this as a foot in the door in order to hopefully expand campus carry in the next few years; that is what they did with restaurant and bar carry, which today is unrestricted.

That is good to see for Georgia.  Tennessee politicians aren't sure if we can be trusted to carry at the local library or hospital from reading NRA sponsored legislation this year.

North Carolina is now the last state that borders Tennessee where carrying on a college campus is illegal.

Did they leave Football stadiums and Basketball arenas in? Or remove them like Arkansas did due to SEC pressure.

Yes from what I read the college sporting events were excluded from the college carry bill.  Of course being able to carry on campus 95% of the time is better than the 0% that most people in Tennessee have.

Sporting events, student housing, daycare facilities, faculty and staff offices, and rooms where disciplinary hearings are conducted are all still off limits.
