Ok so I did a thread search and didn't find what I wanted to know. I have read some articles from guns&ammo, and have always liked the looks of the fiberoptic sights, and i think that is an upgrade I want to add. I found the two styles of fiberoptics for my ruger p95.

option a: is $15(http://www.hivizsights.com/PRUG-Ruger-P-Series-Front-Sight-P127C10.aspx) it is the open style and has replaceable inserts.

Option b: is $25(http://www.opticsemporium.com/hivizrugerpgreensight.aspx) and has a sheath over it which makes it a smooth surface that is less likely to snag and gives it some protection. but doesn't change out.

so here is the question, is option be better? The snag factor kinda worries me.

and I have come up with some potential problems in my head,

1. how about cleaning it?

2. How about installing it?

3. My sights are not adjustable will it affect accuracy?

I had the open style on my XD Tactical 9mm and had no problems out of it. If you remove the fiber rod from the sight blade before you clean the gun, you don't have to worry about solvents ruining the light transmission qualities of the rod. The sight came with several interchangeable rods, also. Two red, two green and one solid white.

In the past I had the enclosed style on my previous M&P 40. It wasn't as bright as the open style, but it held up fine against cleaning solvents and abuse.

Installing either of these should ideally be done with a sight press. You can get by with a delrin drift punch if you're careful.

Accuracy will be about the same as what you have with your factory sights. Hi-Viz generally machines their sight blades to be the same height as OEM.

what are your plans with the gun? Shooting paper or matches or carry? I had a fiber Warren Sevigny front sight with a solid black rear competition sight on my match gun, but found that I did not really care for the fiber. I tried both red and green and eventually switched it back to a stock white dot. I just didn't see the advantage to the fiber. Now that is just me and my sight picture. If it is for carry, if you ever get into a confrontation, more than likely it will be a point and shoot issue anyway. JMO

I would be shooting paper and carry occasionally. (going to get a keltec/elsie pea, for daily carry.

If I were to buy another right now, I'd opt for the open design with the replaceable light pipes. I really liked it. No snags to speak of, but I always carry my firearms in holsters.

Edited to add... If you are going to carry it, ever, I would go for the Tru-Glo sights so that you have a tritium light source to back up the fiber optic. I'm not a fan of fiber optic sights for carry purposes, but the Tru-Glo is a nice design.

I have the open style that came on my M&P Pro and it picks up the light very well. I shoot it in IDPA and in that environment have never had it snag on anything. As far as cleaning, I just wipe it off with a soft rag after shooting and try not to get any solvent on it. If you do mess it up it is very easy to change out and takes just a couple of minutes.

I have a sight picture of my Truglo TFOs that someone mentioned above Here.

Its kinda hard to get an idea of how they(FO,or TFO) through a picture,but I can say that you will not be disappointed with either.
