question for OSX gurus

There's a couple of mac IT guys on here - thought I would hit you up.

Have an issue with OSX.  About 3 weeks ago, spotlight stopped searching for terms inside of word documents.  Searched terms inside of .pdf's still display fine in the results.  I disabled indexing on the documents folder, then re-enabled.  No luck.

Anyone have any ideas?  Did the normal googling, but nothing other than re-indexing the folder came up as a legit suggestion.

Did you happen to upgrade to macOS Sierra around the same time?  No specific experience with the searching for terms inside of word documents but have experienced some interesting stuff since the upgrade.  A lot of my locally trusted certs were purged after the upgrade.

Yeah, that and a couple of other threads all point back to check index settings and it's the fault of a Microsoft Office update.  I can still search the files manually, but have to go to onedrive via web browser and search from there (cumbersome/worse); it's a pain in the ass when you have a couple thousand documents and one assignment requires you to find 40-50 of those documents.
