1913 scope mount to camera tripod mount?

Recommended Posts

I have a camera tripod I want to put a rifle scope on to use the scope like a spotting scope.  My scope has a 1913 rail mount and my tripod was made for a camera.  Is there an easy way to marry the 2 together? I'm not having much luck with my interweb search because I don't know exactly what to ask for.

Ronald thank you for the idea but I don't want to tote a gun with thermal scope around my buddies neighborhood.   lol

To me, correct me if I'm wrong, that Vortex mount (the female side) is made to mount to the gun rail?  I need the "male" side of the mount so my scope has something to hold onto, then screw onto the tripod or visa versa.   I don't know if there are parts considered male and female of a rail mount system.

You could simply buy a thick scope rail, drill and tap........

Even if you had a shop do it, it shouldn't cost much.

A decent gunsmith could whip one up easily.

Yall are overthinking this way to much, a big wad of epoxy will do the trick.:biglol:

YES!! YES!! YES!!!

Thank you, that's it!

Just so you know that's a Picatinny Rail base....(hint...hint...) for no more then one of them cost I'd pull out my drill and taps. Worst case you end up having to shim it or glue it to a thicker piece of metal for structural rigidity and strength.

Thanks guys!! I had a rail I had bought for some other project and it took me longer to find my tap and die set than it did to tap out the hole! It works perfect!!

I like how the scope sets on the tripod but I gotta be careful of the legs at night.

Found this site while I was looking at the exact same challenge and made a simple and strong mount for free.

I used an old tripod mount I already had and a couple of flat-head screws that were a very similar size to a standard rail.

A bit of spare timber, a couple of holes and some epoxy later I had a very solid mount that I could put onto any tripod.

Bit basic but might give you a free solution in a pinch 🙂
