RIA is a picky eater

I picked this gun up a while ago and I've never gotten it right.  It runs FMJs without a hiccup but it will not run anything flat nosed or hollow point.  I've lightly polished the feed ramp with no success.  Is there something I'm missing here or will this gun just not run anything but FMJ ammo?

Omega is on to something, My old Colt would not feed them either but I tried a Tripp CobraMag with a dished out follower and it would work with hollow points. Never tried any flat nose stuff. From your photo's your ramp could be the issue.

I've tried three different mags.  One came with the gun and I bought two more.  IIRC they are all RIA mags, none have any markings on them.  I tend to believe it has something to do with the ramp as well.  I wouldn't have thought this issue would be normal, but it seems like the gun just isn't designed to run hollow points.

In that case I would contact RIA to see if this has been a reported issue.   They may just replace or repair that ramp if that is the issue.  I can't see a gun not being able to run defensive rounds.

I had a similar problem and it was caused by the mags. They were applying to much spring force at the rear of the follower. I remedied this by bending the end of the top coil of the spring up so that it made contact with the front of the follower (the end the rounds come out). I did it with needle nose pliers and bent about 1/2" back from the end of the coil at about a 30 degree angle. This may not have anything to do with your issue but it may be worth of look. Good luck.

I contacted Rock Island via email and they have already sent me a shipping label, no questions asked!  4-6 week turn around time.  Anxious to see how it goes.  I will try the magazine spring thing before I send it off though.

Try a Mec-Gar mag and if that will not feed then contact RIA about it.

I had a ridiculously hard time finding any mags for this gun.  It's a double stacked 9mm "1911" I can't remember for sure but I believe the mags that I purchased are Rock Island mags.  IIRC certain Para Ordinance mags will fit it as well but there isn't much available as it is somewhat of an oddball.
