Winchester USA Forged Ammo

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Just noticed this popping up at Wally's the other day. I priced the 9mm and it was under .21/round out the door.

For those who don't know, this is steel cased, but standard copper brass jacketed lead bullet, unlike the Ruskie stuff.

I was on foot with already good bit of weight to carry home, so didn't grab any, but will next time (these are 150 round boxes).

I bought two boxes of this stuff.  One for my neighbor who was going shooting with me, and one for myself.  I didn't get into my box after watching her load/shoot her box...and I don't plan on it.  This is some of the nastiest ammo I've ever laid hands/eyes on.  Hands were grayish black with oily metal based residue.  Looked like she had just pulled an engine 30 year old oil leaking car.

Curious is it was just these two boxes...Oh Shoot, have you opened the box yet?

Maybe I was editing as you posted:

I ran back by Wally while out this evening, and grabbed the last two boxes of this stuff. And yes, can confirm that there is indeed a light colored "dusting" on the case, that does leave a black residue on fingers. Not sure exactly what that's about, but does seem to be a "thing" for sure. Doesn't seem to be powder leaked after loading, as no residue in box or down in individual holes in the styro holders.

This kid washed if off toward end of vid :)

Military Arms Channel on YouTube tried some, several boxes, and it jammed in every gun he tried it in and he has ALOT of guns.

Hmmm. Found his post on FB but not vid.

I don't see hardly any reviews that claim same kind of probs, though here is one guy who does, and must admit he's got me spooked, saying physical case and bullet sizes are "wildly" out of spec.

Well, I'll see I guess. I'll try to make a point of firing it in several heaters over the next few weeks and report.

Anyway, .209 cents per round out the door. Tula in 50 round box was .24 and WWB in 200 round packaging was .26.

Addendum:

Just randomly sampled fitting rounds in a Glock barrel, maybe 100 rounds total from both boxes, all seem normal. And looking on web again, can't find any vids of anyone actually shooting it that have any probs, so I dunno. Again, I'll try to report later on.

This is great for practicing clearing jams and what not, because it will do just that.  Originally bought couple boxes to feed my Uzi, but ended up putting it through my 19.  Every couple rounds would fail to cycle or do something else.  It doesn't seem to be a problem in the smaller guns like the 43 though.

At around .21/round, why not just get the Sellier & Bellot stuff from SGAmmo? Brass cased and goes bang.

Oh, I buy mostly online, and yeah, 20.5-22 cents per round for brass cased for the most part. Have had no probs with Freedom Munitions stuff, and they were the sweet spot for a good while there on several calibers; have bought from SGAmmo any number of times too.

Just thought I'd try something I'd never seen before.

As promised, first 50 rounds report.

All went bang, all ejected, no jams, all locked back, whatever. Seems plenty zippy enough, all seemed to have about the same zap (claims 1190 at muzzle).

I have shot several boxes through glocks, a springfield xds and an Uzi type carbine. No problems at all...
